Would you still buy the Switch, if you knew a portable was coming?

  • I wouldn't buy the handheld, but would be nice to have it for an option.

I just don't understand anyone who'd want the switch as a handheld. I want clamshell design, has to fit in pockets (XL's can be excused from this), And i want a dual screen with touchscreen. Just works really well for a lot of games i love. If i wanted to play console games i'd just play them on a console.

It depends whether they both get the same games or different games. If both are having the same games, obviously the Switch would be the better choice as it will be getting console type games too. If the handheld gets handheld type games and Switch only gets console type games, I may get both or miss out on the Switch altogether, depending on what games are on offer.

I agree with not wanting to lose the dual screen experience. Its great for RPG's and strategies (Advance Wars Dual Strike used the two screen setup perfectly). Could care less about the touchscreen though. Only a handful of games, Elite Beat Agents in particular, made me think the touchscreen made the experience significantly better.

I'm very curious to find out if Switch is the only device Nintendo will have for this generation. If so Nintendo would be capable of putting together a first party library that would blow anything away that Sony or MS brought to the table. All their resources could go into this one device.

PS: I think the whole idea of a portable device fitting into your pocket is really overrated. The original gameboy couldn't do so and still sold really well. Give people a great library and they will buy the device in huge numbers. Vita fit in your pocket, but didn't sell. Why? Very little in terms of quality exclusive content. Ports weren't enough.

The pocket thing isn't an exact rule tbh. But the switch just breaks that rule too much. Too massive and no clamshell means the screen's gonna scratched up. Do not want.

Yeah, I don't see Switch will replace the handheld either.

Handheld game was make specificly for handheld and console game on handheld device are two different thing. The style of them are different because handheld game was more gameplay heavy and low on graphic because limitation while console game put more effort on graphic but the world they make too big, they have to put too many thing to fill the space they create or just leave it empty.

I personal like handheld game more because their simplicity and 2.5D graphic look better for me. 3D graphic tent to make me dizzy and uncomfortable.

This really could be a third pillar. DS gaming is Nintendo's thing and ending it here would be a surprise but it would make sense since all resources can go into one unit saving money and time.

I want PC gaming and handhelds. The switch is neither.
the steamboy if thats even still a thing

To "REALLY" be a good handheld... It needs to be the size of the small N3DS... easy to fit in a pocket and take with... GBA...all sizes were perfect... the micro was kool too...

The switch is a little too large to sick in the pocket and head out the door... there would be no way to count footsteps with this... NO body would attempt that...

I would like a handheld from Nintendo, but it is looking like they want to make ONE system .... Maybe the N3DS will get a + .... you know... The New3DS+ with Nvidia K1 supported titiles...
(a 3ds that can use the same cartridges as the Switch) Maybe the N3DS already supports the Switch style carts!

In the words of Aerosmith ".... D r e a m O n "

The N switch is simply a home system on the go.
I would probably never take it any where lol... but i am 100% going to buy it and if they make a portable ill see how that is.

"Yes. Portable Master Race!" Was intended as a both option. If that wasn't clear.

Ideally, all those (handheld and console type of) games will be on one device.

I want a ps vita 2.
This is pretty much the closes thing to that.

I want PC gaming and handhelds. The switch is neither.
I'm guessing you don't mean PC and handheld gaming in one device. Switch is clearly in a handheld form factor.

At most I can see is Switch in a different, perhaps even a smaller design rather than a whole new handheld.

Nintendo can't afford to have 2 hardware streams (Switch, 4DS).
Costs too much in hardware and software development.

The Switch is the Home and Mobile gaming in one and you can "Switch" between the two.

so there will be no more ds line evolution?
