    Hello,
I would like to know if it would be possible to port the Tomb Raider Trilogy released on ps3 on the Wii U as a homebrew. If it isn't, would it be possible to do the same with the pc version?
I don't mean emulating but porting.
Would it be easy to do for someone who knows what to do?
Or is it something precisely that can differ for every game?
Also, when we talk about porting a game, is there the same restriction as emulation have?
Like the specs. reqs., emulation requires about 10 times the specs of the original console to work perfectly.
Well, does porting a game from pc to wii u will increases its specs reqs?

thanks to enlight me about game porting :)

I also wonder about this because I want to port Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3. It's for PS2.

Porting requires knowledge of the system used to build the game, and knowledge of the system you're porting it to.

With some newer engines, its fairly easy to build games for other systems. But I'd highly doubt you'd be able to do anything for the PS3->WiiU.

In fact, you'd have to have the source code, and then rewrite all the libraries for the target platform. If it's closed source, then good luck RE.

Though if you're asking this question, it's probably way over your head.

Porting games for Wii U in general has always been difficult for companies since it has a completely different architecture (IBM PowerPC) than current and last gen consoles.
PS3 and XBOX360 were almost the same and were very similar to old PCs.
PS4 and X1 too have practically the same CPU (X86) and characteristics.

That's another reason why new games often skip the Wii U, since porting them would require a lot of effort and in the other hand there isn't a big customer base.

BTW, Zelda looks wonderful with unreal engine!

PS3 was IBM's Cell Architecture, not x86, and hands down the most difficult to code for.

    ^ ^ Sorry it's the last gen (PS4 & X1) that moved to X86. Edited.

Actually, the Wii U should be capable of generating graphics somewhat close to those. It probably wouldn't have quite as much detail though and you're probably right that it wouldn't be Unreal Engine though. You'd likely need your own Engine similar to what Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda, and some other game developers do, or at least a heavily modified one for the strict purpose of your game.

The Wii has less of everything than the Wii U emulation-wise. So maybe it would be different. And don't you just take code from emulators already out there?

EDIT: Plus that was 5 years ago.

general rule of thumb, if you dont understand how something works dont try debate on it, we dont even have a atari emulator for the wiiu so best not get carried away with hopes and dreams huh :P.....afaik the only real "homebrew" is a pong simulator, things would have to have a pretty impressive turn around to start talking about ps2 emulation

Are you the same guy that requested Undertale and Mario Kart 8 on 3ds?

Not sure why people think stuff like this is easy/possible
