Pokemons battle system is actually incredibly simplistic. If you can read...you can do well. You wont be doing any tournaments or online play any time soon, but the normal game against AI is incredibly easy.

Go with HG or SS. Always go with the latest pokemon, because they're basically all the same game with small updates.

Mystery dungeon has a bit more of a tactical/advanced combat system. Not really 6 year old material.

In Pokemon SS. Once you have filled up your 6 pokemon slots can you capture anymore? Can you dismiss or change members of your party?

Yes. To change his pokemon, he as to go to the poke center, and use the little PC next to the counter.

Thanks, he ws selecting the wrong PC to log into. He is now catching pokemen like crazy and putting them in boxes.
