Hi I just wanted to see if anyone else has heard anything on this or not. The BJs in my area put out pokemon white and black games over the weekend and I was able to pick one up. I keep reading the game is supposed to be region locked but I can play it on my LL just fine. Does the game just not have the DSi enhanced features enabled this way?

Easy way to check if you're in DSi mode: Get the C-Gear in-game. Look at the battery meter on the C-Gear. If there's 4 bars in total, you're in DSi mode. If there's 2 bars, then you're in DS mode.

Though I'm pretty sure that the region lock is supposed to prevent you from playing at all

I have 2 bars on it. I was suprised it worked too. Im waiting on a housing for my xl to come in so I figured id try it and so far i havent had any issues. If you try an import version on an american console does it give you the power off message?

It doesn't appear in the DSi menu.

So basically, you have an english white and it loads fine on your japanese xl?

The Japanese version was completely region-locked, and gave an error on non-Japanese DSis.

So I guess Nintendo's lessening the amount of region-locking due to the massive uproar about the 3DS, since you can still play the game, but without the DSi features.

There's no point region locking the english versions really. Once they come out, all languages are out. Only benefit is to region lock the version of the game that comes out first.
