Official reason is that stores in italy sold pokemon x/y too early, so they want to prevent that
...but that doesnt really make sense because stores in canda did the same

Well it seems from reviews that the Battle Frontier is missing, but some NPC dialogue hints that it could be added in DLC, possibly a day-one update.

Because heaven forbid that Gamefreak not have an excuse to continue halfassing the 3DS Pokemon entries. As if poor optimization for the 3D and general battle lag weren't bad enough, they have the gall to leave out post game content yet again that may or may not get added in later on.

Good going, Gamefreak. I won't be giving you my money this time around. I learned my lesson with X/Y.
