On the first island south(?) from your house. You need to smash some rocks to get into the cave.

No. Go into Ten Carat Hill, smash the rocks with Tauros, go through the other cave exit, you will be outside in the middle of a dormant crater. It's identical to the area where you fought the totem Pokemon in the demo.

You're not stuck on the 2nd island. You can always enter the fiery terminal and take the boat back to the first island.
