ROM Hack Pokemon HG/SS fix discussion

Who all has cycloDS and has it work for them? I dont understand why it would work for some people and not for other when we have the same firmware/flashcart.

For me, I have CycloDS 1.57 firmware stable. The ones that are having a problem with it is probably have 1.58 B1.

how many hours have you been playing?
i used 1.56, 1.57 and 1.58B all of them froze after 30 or 40 min

How far are you in the game. and, it hasnt frozen once?

I have my first badge at the moment (i know, I'm behind) and it has yet to freeze. I could probably use pokesav to edit badges and such to see if it freezes and such.

Anyway, current speculation is that it might be a bad ROM dump.

Does this mean that the Korean and French ROMs are bad dumps as well? As far as I know, they both suffer from the same problems.

Lol. its gonna freeze for you. some people got 3 hours in until it started freezing.

Any French rom gotta be the fan translation from the Japanese release.
The French version will only be out on March 26th, 2010. Maybe before, if it gets leaked.

I had a visual clue before a freeze. Traded bellsprout for onyx. Left the house and went north. the entire area across starting at the bridge going the tower was black and unpassable. I left town to the south and it froze.

I'm using a clean rom on a SCDS1 w\EOS and I played for 3 hrs before my first freeze.

The Japanese ROM did have some AP measures, but they were easily fixed within hours, from what I remember. For me, I wasn't able to save the game, but I think some people also ran into some black screen problems. The game works fine for me now, albeit it freezes now and then for some odd reason.

CycloDS should be the next one that should be able to play it if they can update there FW.

The Japanese ROM did have some AP measures, but they were easily fixed within hours, from what I remember. For me, I wasn't able to save the game, but I think some people also ran into some black screen problems. The game works fine for me now, albeit it freezes now and then for some odd reason.

Why would the AP vary so much between regions?

Then again, Nintendo could have be looking at how the AP was bypassed with the Jap version and recoded a new one while they were translating... Hmmm.

I found a solution for DSTT users:

1) Get a clean US rom of any of the games (HG or SS)

2) Make sure you have DSTT v1.17a12 firmware!

3) Before you start/load the game, go to rom options and DISABLE DMA Mode (DMA = OFF)

4) Start/load the game now!

NOTE: There is one downside tho; when you save the game, it takes a bit more time, but
it's not too bad. Apart from that, it's all great!

I think that was most likely why. The japanese was broke within hours of it coming out. It was way too easy.

i got it working flawlessly, I just got back from the midnight release at my local wal mart and snagged my copy of soul silver. It works like a charm no freeze here. =)
