I suggest looking up some tutorials on Google and/or YouTube.

No, no it doesn't. Most of those hacks only contain custom Pokemon or some really minor changes - it's the exact same game over and over and over again. It's getting old and unless a hack really reaches a stage where it's something fresh and new, not another re-hash, it doesn't deserve yet another thread.

Granted it is the wrong section but http://gbatemp.net/topic/329576-recompressing-an-overlay-file/page__fromsearch__1 (someone had decompressed an overlay to do an assembly hack and was having issues recompressing and inserting it).
It was for a pokemon game but it was a genuine technical question that realistically would not be solved by grab [insert pokemon tool of the moment] and even if it could have a bit of understanding as to the underlying methods would have very much served as there are several potential things to trip people up there (as much as I dislike it the average Advance-Text user probably does not need to know the finer points of text encoding systems and text hacking in general where anybody else would probably get http://transcorp.parodius.com/scratchpad/Table%20File%20Format.txt linked and various concepts explained).

You will probably not catch me in a pokemon thread but I have no problems with technical threads and do not want to discourage them. I would also be inclined to include model, sprite and texture ripping formats in with those but frankly there are about seven hackers that frequent the boards that pull apart the formats in the first place and leave it to others to click the several hundred times to actually rip things beyond the initial proof of concept stuff not to mention pokemon games are something of a masterclass in format reverse engineering and why relying on SDK formats will only get you so far.
I know this thread is explicitly for pokemon hacks but serious (not harsh mind you) penalties are upon people and incurring the wrath of the mods might see a few things avoid being posted. Of course things can easily be split so that might be a null point. I will say though if your idea of hacking a DS rom is to have a look at the filesystem to see if there are any known formats and failing that/on top of that having a look with a tile editor and hex editor to see what can be discerned you will probably not be making a pointless thread.

Likewise I also tried to tidy up filetrip a bit which pretty much amounted to putting everything in proper sections/the same sections as similar types of tools, sticking everything that was very useful and general purpose in the case of tools and everything that was not pokemon in the case of patches and leaving pokemon stuff to rot. If however a good pokemon hack manages to be made sticking one of those can be done (in general if a good hack gets made and posted here the thread will be stuck for a couple of a weeks and having the same done on filetrip although probably more of a permanent thing).

I must say I am very much for this (or something being done in general) for as others have said we have loads of promising translations, promising hacks, nice tools, requests to help out with interesting custom formats, general hacking discussion and more that makes for a good hacking section but damn was the signal to noise ratio not on the good side (protip- the forum filters at the top of the section work pretty well).

Do not just copy-paste the path to the file if you are not running a server, and even if you are running a server, keep in mind that once you turn it off, the files will not be accessible.
