Hacking Pokemon Diamond game editor

Ok so I've been playing shiny gold and bloody diamond and it got me to thinking about this fan story I was gonna co-write with some friends but we never got it off the ground. I was thinking it would be cool if I made a game hack of it. So I wanted to know if there were special programs to edit everything in pokemon diamond like whoever did bloody diamond. Any kind of program that could help in this goal would be appreciated

No, I think they did it out of humble expertise........

With some Google searches and some good effort, maybe you might wanna start on a simpler ROM, like Blue or Silver.
