Third place is the new second, it seems. Data firm Strategy Analytics is reporting that, as of the end of 2010, PlayStation 3?s total active user base is 43.4 million units worldwide, whereas Xbox 360?s universal numbers amount to 42.9 million. Nintendo Wii is still on top, with 75.5 million active units across the globe.

Nice April fools' joke. This is IMPOSSIBLE.

EDIT - Quoted from the source:

"Update 9:01pm: We made a bit of a boo-boo with our original post and title. It seems this article is speaking of the console’s “active user base”. We’ve updated the post and topic to reflect the correct information."

How can you be so sure? I know that it was posted on the 31st of March, but that doesn't mean that it isn't an April Fools joke. This should clear some stuff up. I fail to understand how the PS3 sales can suddenly overtake the massive sales of the 360.

"active user base".

Not sales. Read it again. The title may be slightly misleading, but sales are never mentioned until the end where the guy is just guessing at future sales.

wasnt really massive

last time I checked it was 3.5mil unit difference between the two
but its very unlikely the PS3 moved that many units in 1 week

im calling aprils fools

I really don't care if they sold 1 system, or 5 trillion. The thing that pisses me off the most is this is going to be 98% of Sony's press conference for E3. All they do is talk numbers.

You know what I use my PS3 for? Heating my room.

Fact is, eventually, it was bound to pass it up. 360 came out some time before the PS3, and it's just NOW hitting that benchmark? That's fucking sad.

Every company starts with numbers and then the releases, that's just classic marketing.

Bullshit. Bull-fucking-shit. Nobody makes as big of a deal about numbers than Sony.

At E3 =

Sony: "OH, WE BEAT MICROSOFT! WE ARE THE BEST EVUR!!! NO ONE LIKES NINTENDO SHIT SO WE WIN"

Microsoft: "Who cares about numbers? WE GOTZ CoD AND KINECT"

Nintendo: *mindless accessories, remakes, ports* "Yeah, we're fucked."
