I've heard I need a cool tool called 'SD Gecko', which I've seen before and can buy. Are there any step-by-step tutorials for what I do once I actually get an SD Gecko, and if not, could one of y'all cool folk help me out?

Most Modchips for the Wii allow you to play GameCube backups....
the sdgecko was just used to run homebrew back in the day on modded gcubes....

I'm softmodded, and I heard that there's a way to run GC backups on a softmodded Wii.

there is a gamecube homebrew launcher that patches the MIOS, from that you can run SD-Boot which can load GC backups from SD_Gecko [IMG]

true, it's called gamecube homebrew launcher...you modify mios to boot a homebrew dol from sd...and there is one which will let you load iso's from sdgecko, not great compatibility, but it does work.
