PIRATING IS DOWNLOADING ANYTHING ILLEGAL!
This doesn't make much logical sense, Taggy. (There isn't much intellectual material out there that is illegal by default (such as k-porn) -- I'm sure you weren't talking about that.)

I think what you meant to say is:

"Downloading anything copyrighted without permission is illegal"
Thanks! Will Edit!

I am not a hypocrite nor a liar but a troll. I thought everyone would take the piss and vote no, they bloody haven't.

if piracy is stealing, then so is renting or borrowing movies, games, etc, buying used, recording tv shows on the dvr, etc. the proponents against piracy have so many holes in their arguments that it's laughable.

One has the permission to do the things you listed. All of them.

1 But the video store OWNS the movie, they don't give it to you pirated..
2 Your friend legally bought the game and can do anything he wants to it that doesn't break the copyright laws.
3 Look at 2
4 But it was originally bought legally.
5 You don't own the TV shows. You don't watch them illegally.

So what if I have 100 friends and they all want to borrow a game I have?
It's legal to back up my own game right?
And back ups I make are things I own?
And it's legal to let people borrow things I own right?
So let's say I make 100 backups so all my friends can borrow the game at the same time.
And let's say I don't set a deadline for them to return my backups.

How does that work out?

Oh dear tagzard, i read alot of gbatemp threads and yours have to be the most pointless, what might be good for you is to go place this poll on the FBI forums (if there are such a thing) that way you'll get a varied response but seeing as alot of topics here centralize around hacking or pirating I personally think its a pretty dumb question to ask

But seeing as your asking

I don't think tempers is capable of having a rational discussion on piracy.
They lack the maturity

Daft (not stupid) post to put on forums such as these. Obviously just going to start a troll-fest and/or flame war. Good call!

Said it before and I'll say it again...... Borrowing a book/magazine/newspaper from a friend and reading it is the same as piracy, even if you give it back afterwards. You have still denied the creator of that work a sale. How many of us have honestly never borrowed a book or CD or DVD from a friend ? Ergo we are all guilty, ergo we should all get down off our high horses and shut the fuck up until we are old enough to actually understand the issue we are pretending to debate

I described a real life torrenting system that you'd have permission for.
Why is it suddenly illegal if it's online instead?

The main argument about piracy is that publishers lose sales from it.
They also lose sales from rented things and buying things used.
Except with renting and buying used, someone else is making a profit instead of the publishers making it slightly worse than if the person were just to pirate the things.
