In the "SAVEDATA" file in a decrypted save you just have to change 9 bytes to unlock the Amiibo puzzles.

I tried this and it worked, but it also changed various settings in ways that were initially quite worrying. If this happens to anyone else, don't panic - it's possible to reverse these changes.

The background picture and sound were set, IIRC, to Argyle and Jazz. But the music didn't sound at all as it also set the volume to zero.

Strangely, it also changed the controls so that every button claimed to paint blocks blue, but actually didn't do anything. It wasn't possible to get back my previous scheme as it also removed the 'back' button from the settings when button control was selected. I eventually managed to make things work again by swapping between circle pad and button control a couple of times.

That sounds like you may have inserted bytes rather than overwritten them.
