So...long story short. I have no sensation in my left thumb. Well, that's not true, I can feel pressure on it, and that's about it. It feels like someone wrapped my thumb in gauze and I'm feeling the sensation through it.

You ask, how did it happen?

I was peeling an orange with a steak knife. (Yes, a very serrated steak knife.) It had a uber thick skin, and I was cutting a slice when I felt a pressure on the thumb. It was the blade near the handle of the knife, and it went in about half an inch. It didn't start bleeding until maybe 40 seconds later. It was a clean cut, no chunks of skin were taken out. When it started to hurt, I tucked it into my mouth. I woke up my dad, and according to him, I was starting to dribble blood out of my mouth. (I didn't feel it...)

He checked the cut, and there was nothing in it, and he couldn't staunch the flow of blood. (Keep in mind it's like 3 in the morning.) I bleed through several layers of gauze and he finally finds some chinese medicine in a packet that helps stem bleeding. It's a white powder, and it smells very herbal/earthy and immediate application almost instantly closes the wound. I wore gloves/gauze the whole week...and it was in June...for pete's sake.

So, got any horror stories of getting scars?

PS - I also have a scar running up my shin. Guess what I was doing when that happened?

1) My friend has a scar close to his temple. Tobagganing injury - he rolled onto his metal tobaggan.
2) Another friend slammed into plate glass; resulting in shards embedded in his arm. He still has polka dot-ish scars on his upper arm/bicep on the left side.
3) A female friend broke her arm by falling down the stairs. Freak occurrence, because she broke it by accidentally wedging part of her forearm into the bars/railing by the stairs. The rest of her fell down, and her arm broke because of the sheer force of being bent into the bars. She tells me the snap was horrific. It scarred because it was an open fracture - the bone was sticking through the skin.
4) Another female friend has a scar on the inside of her mouth. It was a drunk fight, but she was eating steak and had part of the bone in her mouth. Her opponent suddenly cold cocked her in the mouth, with her mouthing the steak bone. Result was blood running out of her mouth, but no lost teeth - surprising!

I tried prying a airsoft gun open with a small steak knife. Not my brightest idea ever. The knife slipped and went right through my thumb. My mom saw it happen, put some gauze on it and got me to the ER ASAP. Which brings me to ask the question: why didn't you get stitches for it?

i have 17 stab wounds and 3 bullet wounds...the stab wounds are on my hand, 12 on my left side 1 on my left arm and 3 in my back...bullet wounds are twice in the right shoulder and once in the leg...i also have a scar on my forehead and eyebrow from getting hit with a baseball bat and the rest of my scars are little things like burn scars and things like that...

Didn't need to. It sealed up almost immediately, and it never healed open. It was pretty bad at the time.

I've got a scar on my back from surgery

I've got a scar on my leg from sort of getting it rammed/scraping a wooden box. >.> Jumping accident.
Do these count? Nothing horrorish about how I got mine.

Still painful, so it counts. I had my finger completely smashed in a fire escape door. Heavy metal (steel door) about two inches thick. Was purple for weeks, and the nail fell off. No neat scar, although.

I had a skin graph done on my right forearm when I was 1 or 2 years old from a chemical burn. I also had to get my bottom lip sewed back together from a snowboarding accident that spilt it down the middle. Here is a picture of my right forearm. It's hard to see it in the picture but it's pretty cool actually because it resembles the state Michigan from my point of view.

I was carrying groceries, including a jar of ajvar, a hot relish; tripped, dropped the jar, fell and landed on it with my outside thigh. Ended up with a leg full of glass and hot peppers. 20 stitches, and I couldn't stand on that leg for a month.

I've got a few scars of myown here and there:-
1 on the back of my right hand (no idea)
1 on my rightleg just above my knee (also no idea)
a wierd marking on my left leg just above my knee (no idea

it just appeared)
1 on my left wrist just beneath my hand on the side (little finger side), got this one ummm well I have no idea either I just remember finding it and alot of blood all over my arm and dripping the healing process was nasty too every time it healed it would reopen because of where it is took almost 4 and a half months to heal

When I was seven, I tripped and fell in the shower onto my sister's razor (which was sitting upside-down on the edge of the bath tub). As a result,I now I have a line of scar tissue up my right leg.

When I was eleven, I slid down a concrete hill on my left elbow. My wenis has never been the same.

hmm, speaking of scar, i remember hitting my head on a car number plate, i was chasing my brother on that fateful day to get back at him for punching me, it was raining and i accidentally slide down a hil and hit my head onto a car that was parked.

I could have swore that there was a scar but my parent told me nope, just a small wound and that's it.

edit:

hmm, i do have a small scar on my left hand, just beneath the palm, that was when i was chasing a bus on a rainy day when i slip and gazed my arm, and since this was after i have diabetic, the wound took quite a while to recover, in the meantime, i got me my score:D

i've got quite a few scars

one all the way up my arm, i was tuning a string on my acoustic and snap, my arm happened to be in the wrong place. though its kinda faded now.

got a burn scar on my left arm from nearly 10 years ago now, 3rd degree burns from a boiling kettle. only just started to fade 2-3 years ago. its still quite visible.

i've got a fairly large burnscar on my hand, wasnt too bad. was at work, wasn't paying attention while i was talking to a customer, dipped my hand in the oil for a bit. its just a bit darker than my other hand.

another burnscar on my left leg, fishing about 2 years ago, my leg just nicked the top of the gas latern we had. left a big pussy bubble for awhile.

got 2 pretty bad grazes on my knee's from a pretty bad night out. i remember taking a tumble. they ended up getting infected. scar is still quite visible.

another one on the back of my thigh from hiking a year ago, walked a bit too close to a wire fence and didn't notice until one of my friends pointed out that the back of my pants were bleeding. had to get that one stitched up.

I cut off the side of my finger tip one time, with a meat slicer. The actual cutting was completly painless and so was the ensuing bleeding. What wasn't painless was getting it to stop bleeding, someone reccomended that I put cayenne pepper on it

I did and it worked like a charm (apparently cayenne pepper can restrict capillaries and disinfect wounds) but it burned like a mother fucker!

And you listened?

Like I said, it worked. They warned me of the initial burning but it also prevented a trip to the hospital, stitches, and infection.

Cayenne pepper is apparently a cure-all

My scars and marks to date:

- I have a scar on my chest where I was stabbed trying to rescue my friend from being raped. She managed to escape and brought back help while I fought off her attackers but I was knifed for my efforts. I actually died in the hospital, got revived (or did I? heheheheh....). I have trouble breathing in extreme weather conditions as a result, and my friend now views me as her knight in shining armour and refuses to let me out of her sight.

- I have a scar above my right eye where my mother threw a plate at me during a heated argument with her now ex husband. Long story.

- I have two scars on my right hand, one around the base of my middle finger, the other on the joint in my index finger, recieved in one of my many battles over the years.

- There's a mark on my left hand shaped a bit like a triforce which I got while defending my friend again, this time in a bar fight. Someone threw a glass at her, I blocked it, the glass fragments dug into my hand. It's a strange one. The mark comes from the injury never fully healing for some reason, and the end result is that when I'm stressed and my blood pressure is high, the mark is more visible.

- There's a mark on my right foot where I got a nail through it as a kid. My friend moved into a new house, garden was massively overgrown, we were clearing it away so he could cut the grass, and the previous owner had left a board with a nail it in sticking upright, which proceeded to pierce my shoe, sock, and foot.

- I have many other small scars all over my body, I've seen my fair share of battle. Nothing really worth mentioning though.

None of my scars are visible as none of them are on the surface... much.

Let's see, I have a Fulda Gap scar I got in the 70s. Inside joke that. I got it from emotional trauma thanks to worrying about the Warsaw Pact forces. Fulda is a place in the then termed Western Germany. As such I can't enjoy games connected to European WW3 settings.

I have a hernia scar thanks to trying to be a brick layer. Avoid this trade if you can't stomache a lot of very heavy lifting.

My mind has a scar thanks to fybromyalgia. Yes I know what suicidal thoughts feel like. Not pretty.

The internet has left a few scars on my mood over the years.

Religion has certainly scarred me. But regular treatments of cosmology help to deal with that. The truth is literally out there ie it's out in space, you merely need to look.... far enough.

But otherwise I have no massive cuts, scratches, abrasions, missing pieces or tattoos.

I don't have any scar/marks but I did cut the very tip of my left thumb off in HE while cutting an onion. The result wasn't very horrific, just a disc of skin and a bit of oozing blood. This wouldn't be much of a story if it wasn't for the fact I fainted in front of the entire class after spending about 3-5 minutes complete fine about it getting a bandage over it (too much blood for their tiny thumb plasters.) Its the first time I ever fainted and I felt horrible for about an hour afterwards, also this was the last period of the day on a Friday so I didn't even get to miss the rest of the school day afterwards!!

Btw: The bandage was far too big but pretty funny all the same, the HE teacher's first aid must be based off black and white comedy films
