Gaming PC graphics cards.... totally lost

Hey all,

I've been out of PC gaming for a long time now thanks to all my consoles. Want to get back into it but haven't got a clue what anything means when it comes to specifications....

So the question is, if you were going to buy a new graphics card and you had around £80-£90 to play with and you were going to buy from cclonline.com ...... what would you get? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Reasons for you choice would also be great to help me understand what all the jargon means.

Oh, other information.... I have quad core CPU at 2.6GHz and 4gb RAM and 2.0x PCI-E so I should be able to support any card you suggest.

I think the 9800GT or HD4850 might be in that price range.

Yeah, I was lookling at the 4850 but was concerned that all the others had meaty fans on them and that only had a heat sink..... confused me

Nvidia GTX260's are cheap as hell right now.

get the gtx275 with stock cooler

silent and fast.

gtx260 is nice, but theres so many versions (55/65nm, 216sp/192sp) you dont know which one you get or to choose.

also you can easily tell the difference between a GTX260
it will say core 216, if not then its almost always a core 192

I have decided to get the 4850 because that is in my price range and more than one person has recommended it including the dread pirate LeChuck.

Er, i dont mean to hijack this thread, but could anyone recommend me a graphics card too? hopefully below $60?

ouch 250 isn't very good these days. im surprised you are running a dual core on that. i doubt you'll be able to run any card from the last 2 maybe even 3 generations on that 250w.

i've read some good things about the ATI 4770 - mid range budget card that can powered on small PSU (important for me as my dell only has a 300 watt PSU)

yea, my friend is going to get me one for my B-day (today) im hoping hes gonna get me a 450 or 500 at least.

just make sure he buy a good branded PSU and not some junky PSU from rosewill or where ever
