ROM Hack Patching a CIA Once Translated

Once I've extracted the contents of a CIA using GM9 and made my modifications to the files, how would I go about patching them back into the .cia file for my changes to take effect? I did some looking up on the internet and I can't quite seem to find the exact kind of guidance I'm looking for (that is, treating me as someone who's never done a patch before, ever, and would need it explained essentially from the ground up). Of course, if there's a guide like this out there, a link to it would be much appreciated - I don't mind following a guide alone. Thanks!
