Sorry I'm new.

I have custom firmware 4.0u, and I have two questions.

1. If I use a normal game(one from a store) and it asks for a patch or update, can I patch it? or if I do will it brick my system or cause conflict with the custom firmware?

2.1. If I use a backup game and it asks for a patch or update, can I patch it? or if I do will it brick my system or cause conflict with the custom firmware?

Sorry for the newb questions. Thanks.

Well, updating the system with Nintendo won't bring any sort of harm to the system itself. It may, however, disable some homebrew that you have on your Wii depending on the update.

However, you can skip the need to update entirely using homebrew software. I use preloader with hacks to accomplish this myself.

Sorry,

I'm a little confused. My main question is if I have a retail and it requires a patch. Lets say from 1.0 to 1.1, or something like that. Can I patch it without messing some of the homebrew stuff up? Remember this is a retail game.

Thanks again.

Updates from newer discs will most likely mess up your homebrew capabilities (especially softmods). Just use Preloader hacks or Gecko to avoid unnecessary updates.

If the game if from another region (let's say it's a PAL game and you have a NTSC console), if you update you'll brick it.

Then, as the above users said, there'd be no harm in updating with a game from the SAME region, but you might disable further homebrew with the update. I'd recommend you to decide if you want to run homebrew in the future or not. If you don't, then do all the updates it ask and maybe you can still run homebrew (as today, you still can). If not, I recommend you start to read about it and refrain from updating without knowing.

And if it's a backup game, you could run WiiBrickBlocker on the ISO to remove the update partition.

There are many guides floating around for updating to 4.0 involving waninkoko's firmware updater. Search.

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.

He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.
