Hello there, all!

Yeah, I like to write a lot. If you can't tell.

Like many, I'm a (very) long time lurker who finally decided to join. I admit it's primarily because I have an issue with one of my consoles that I haven't been able to work through, but I'll save that for the questions forum when I have enough points to post there. I've used GBAtemp for a lot of help in the past, be it for technical difficulties, flashcart reviews, or in-game help, so beyond seeking assistance I feel it's about time I contributed. Plus, just writing this intro out makes me feel like I want to chat!

Anyway, about me. I'm primarily a writer (though unfortunately not by trade). I dabble in commission fanfiction on certain websites, and original fiction in the form of novels and short stories (I have a few books up on Amazon). I used to work trade sales for Games Workshop and as such have a background in tabletop wargaming, but I also like traditional RPGs, board games, and classic literature. I've admined a few online text RP communities before as well. I'm pushing 40 now and a parent, so my definition of 'retro' doesn't tend to fit so well with the younger generation, and my nostaglia love goes back to things like Atari, Gameboy, NES, Commodore 64, etc. Feel free to chat with me about those halcyon days when we typed 'LOAD "*", 8, 1' into the Commodore, went and got lunch, and came back hoping our game would be ready to play without the dreaded 'Press Play on Tape' warning! (Ah, Defender of the Crown. How I love to hate you.) My first NES game was Mega Man I, which I think took me over a year to actually beat. Yeah, we didn't have internet help back then. Just Nintendo Power and word of mouth. I can't describe to you how amazing it was to have a console with graphics that much better than Atari, with no load times! Omigosh!

As for my video gaming background, I am very much a retro-gamer, at least insofar as non-portables are concerned. I've provided a list of the consoles I own, what I've done to them, and what flashcart devices I have below. I do all my own modification work (with the help of the internet), and sometimes repairs for friends when fesable. In my youth my tastes were a bit different and there are exceptions to every rule of course, but these days I don't really have the time to invest in a 70+ hour romp whatever the genre, so unless there's nostalgia value or it just totally knocks my socks off, I tend to stick to things I know, without overcomplicated control schemes or functions that I'll forget how to use after I inevitably walk away for a few weeks and come back to it. I suck hard at 2D fighters, find FPS boring, don't have a gaming PC (and am not interested in getting one), and am not big on mainstream titles/characters such as Final Fantasy, anything with Mario/Link/etc, Pokemon, so forth.

Right, what do I like then. First person crawlers, RPGs (I'm always hoping a new one will grab me to the point that I'll want to finish it), arcade beat 'em ups, tactical strategy, on rare occasion sports/racing, sometimes platformers, and...well like I say, there are exceptions to every rule.

Lately, my new toy has been the Tank Stick by X-arcade, which I am loving to pieces. Modified it with a Raspberry Pi stuck to the back, because there's no way I'm using this thing for anything but MAME love <3

That's Deneb Rhode, a character from the Tactics Ogre series, as she appears in one of my favorite GBA games - Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. She's a hidden character that doesn't appear in the game at all unless you go through the easily missable, optional steps to recruit her, and comes with the benefits of being more powerful than an average witch, and access to her personal secret shop. :)
