Considering the widespread support for Reading Rainbow, I'd say this isn't so much a "let's help fund Reading Rainbow" as it is a "GUYS, GUYS, OUR SYSTEM IS LIKE THE DETROIT OF GAME SYSTEMS, WHAT DO? I KNOW, LET'S PIGGYBACK OFF THE SUCCESS OF SOMEONE ELSE!" Instead, the system will still be something that no respectable person would ever admire, much like Detroit is something no human could admire, except maybe the poorest of third world countries.

Why doesnt ouya just sell different color limited edition faceplates for the console and controllers instead of releasing new ouya's every 2 months like a new flavor of doritos.

Even as a OUYA lover I ask this question constantly. The hardware is easy to take out of the case. It's annoying that different color shells are not sold.

Um...cant the same be said about PC gaming and consoles? Having the latest hardware isn't everything. It's about having something that you enjoy.

Almost true yes.
However the hardware development of Android is blazingly fast.
It as a console... although the open platform is a great idea, it won't stand much of a chance.
To deliver the same quality, you'll have to upgrade your Ouya every half an year or lets say, every year.

Even it being cheap, not a lot of people are waiting to purchase a new Ouya yearly.

I know they want to increase sales but now this is just silly. Making new OUYAs with exclusive colors every 2 months isn't increasing the OUYA community, it's alienating your consumers who would also like different colors but wont buy them because they already own perfectly functioning OUYAs. And for Pete's sake, its been 2 years and there's still no gold OUYA? That should have been the first spin-off color.

I think they are waiting till holiday. I just want to see a OUYA 2, running on K1 and lasting 2 and a half years minimum.

The MiPad will be released on Tuesday for 250. The next OUYA wont have a screen and a battery. Not to mention, OUYA is in bed with Nvidia. I'm sure they could land a 150 dollar box.

I'm sure NVidia will give OUYA preferential treatment now that they've entered the Android gaming market themselves with the Shield.

shield was already in the market when the first OUYA came out.

The Shield is infinitely sexier and more useful than an Ouya, in my humble opinion. If I had the cash to spare right now, honestly, I'd pick one up. It's pretty much the ideal set up for Android gaming. Where Ouya falls short is that it tries to take something that works best in the palm of your hand and tries to place it on the big screen. The Shield does a good job making the games more accessible and easier to play by both giving the power, the controls, and the convenience of something that could still be easily transported if desired, with the added home functionality of game streaming.

All in all, undeniably, the Shield is superior to the Ouya. Also undeniably though, they both sell pretty terribly.

shield was already in the market when the first OUYA came out.

A Shield 2 is being made, making any deals with potentially competing merchandise more than a little unlikely.

The OUYA was released in December 2012 for devs and in June 2013 for the rest of the world, the Shield was released July 2013. If my knowledge of the calendar doesn't fail me, the OUYA was first, so the deal for the chips was no doubt struck long before the Shield was out.
