Homebrew out of the loop

so, i haven't even charged my 3ds in multiple months because the battery swelled up, on both my n3ds xl and o3ds xl, i decided to power up my n3ds xl after a goood loong number of months, it's running 11.6 with b9s idkwhatversion

since i'm out of the loop, what's new, what's updated, and what should i get?
i already uninstalled freeshop and ciangel

what broke in 11.7 and 11.8 (other than CDN downloaders) other than luma (obviously)
and are there any new firmware locked games? like warioware gold and the likes?

Okay first update luma to the latest version and then update your 3ds to the latest version.

Not much aside from the stuff you mentioned. 11.7 removed some Nintendo Zone hotspots and you already mentioned 11.8's noteworthy changes.

As far as I know there are no games requiring specifically these two FW versions so you should be good if you want to stay behind. Keep in mind however that using the eShop for anything will require 11.8, including legitimate purchases.

i don't plan on using any "legitimate purchases", i don't have a credit card and getting gift cards is a bitch

Then you should be mostly fine. I said mostly because you shouldn't be able to download even stuff like game updates but hey, if you only care about playing games locally or offline then there's no real reason to update to 11.8 anyways

I've updated my 3DS to 11.8 and everything appears to work fine, game updates and all. Freeshop is bust, though.
