About to mod my old fat ps2, just got the action replay disc and got all the files I need, just wondering if opl v.8 is the best usb loader for ps2 and if it can play ps1 games, also, making sure I have everything I need to mod.

Memory Card
USB stick
Action Replay
and obviously a fat ps2

OPL is as good as a usb/smb/hdd game loader can get on the ps2, however, if for use with usb, you will find most game barely playable with long loading time, stuttering in the fmv and, for some title, in-game stuttering because it only uses usb 1.1 speed. Also OPL doesn't allow you to play ps1 game.

You should also use free mcboot, this way you won't have to do the exploit every time you want to play, the noobie package include opl.

all you have to do is:
1. download the noobie package:
http://freemcboot.info/noobie.html
2. do the exploit -> ulaunch
3. run free mcboot installation package from your usb stick.

To play ps1 back-up, the only methods I heard of are disc swap exploit, meaning that you need an original ps1 game and your back-up will be on a cd (no usb loading)

There are a few methods to get ps1 backup dics to load. One of which uses ulaunch and the disc swap while the other uses a swap disc(like the original ps1 action replay) and the disc swap. Regardless you're gonna want a disc swap tool.

Could have sworn there was another method for the 50001 model *shrugs*

*EDIT* I think this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4VWNCI-Dl0 basically you can swap ps1 discs without using anything else except a card and an original ps1 game on the 50001 models.
