I'm kind of curious...how do you do that "buy the full game" in this case? No...I'm seriously: Epic's store wasn't around when this game came out, and the internet wasn't fully known either. IIRC, you could only mail order it through a telephone number, and...I seriously doubt they're still taking orders on that line.

One of the best platformers of the 90's, I still have a soft spot for Jazz.
I'm not sure whether to agree on this, but I can't do a 'half thumbs up'. :P

On PC, it certainly was one of the best platformers. The thing was that nintendo and the game boy scooped up so many great ones that they were a league on their own.

So I'm just saying: there was a lot of competition in the field of platformers in the nineties. :)

It took them a surprisingly long time, but it's been on GOG for a while now; it even has The Secret Files and The Christmas Chronicles. The old Epic Pinball is there too, and Jill of the Jungle is a free download. (I know a few of their older games, including One Must Fall 2097 have been officially, legitimately released as freeware, but I'm not sure about some of the others like Zone 66.)

I like your groove and 'amma let you finish, but Jazz is a blaster-wielding green rabbit with a hot rabbit lady-friend, so your argument is invalid. ;O;

Jack Jazzrabbit was significant on the PC simply because the PC wasn’t technically well suited to scrolling 2D platformers. The videos cards of the time just weren’t designed for that kind of game. So as strange as it sounds, it was a technically impressive game for the hardware even with Doom as its peer.

Probably wouldn’t have had the same impact on consoles, though.

There were lots of games that fared well enough, I think – Commander Keen (particularly episodes 4-6), Duke Nukem, that sort of thing. I think the fact that not everyone had a decent sound card and/or input device was more of a problem.

Keen had average framerates and Duke's were horrendous. Getting these games to run at 60 was very rare on PCs, especially one as fast-paced as Jazz, but this was something even the NES and Master System had down, thanks to 2D acceleration.

Any future release planned for current firmware versions? I downloaded it from the Homebrew App Store but unfortunately I get "The software was closed because of an error" when trying to boot. I'm assuming it's because I'm on the current switch firmware.

Until the official release, here is a rebuild of 1.21 with the new LibNX. For me it works... :)

I just updated my emuMMC to atmosphere 19.5 and Switch firmware 12.1
Now the game crashes on boot :( It worked flawlessly before I updated. Any thoughts?

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
