This is not working either, but I tried using 2.5 payloads. Maybe with 2.1 that method will work?
I don't see where my problem lies...
What Firmware are you going to run oothax? if it's going to be 10.2, you need to use payload 2.1 off theme hax offline for it to work. Atm payload 2.5 and oothax don't play nice on 3ds 10.2

No, I'm not running oot3dhax on 10.2, but on 10.1.

Where are you getting the payload for 10.1? And list the steps you're doing
It's should work fine with the method I've linked

You just need to get the payload off the themehax offline installer posted for your 10.1 3ds, because smea removed it already from his servers.

EDIT: also add what Oot3dhax installer you're using.

I tried using the svdt's method without having a dummy save and still works
Did you wipe off your savedata and then just used svdt to import the 2 files?

I'm getting the payload from Smea's github site (Payload for *hax 2.5).
I've downloaded the offline version of oot3dhax from the post you linked (or somewhere near that), put inside that folder the payload.bin and run it on HBL on my 9.8 3DS.

That's strange tho, you're running on an older firmware that should work fine, but check here seems to be hit or miss for everyone.

Okay, I'll try it!

PS: Same result as before, the screen glitches up but then the game closes and "An error has occourred" message prompts out on Home Menu.

Weird, I'm using the same settings as yours but I still can't get it to work. Maybe it's the payload? It should be fine since I've downloaded the otherapp from Smea's site...

Yeah, that's really weird...
Another thing you could try could be to install the 2.1 version and use it to run MenuHax installer, so you can have at least an entrypoint on your 10.1
