online poker in the us finally banned

i just found out from my neighbor that full tilt has stopped allowing players from the usa to play online! I tried to log in and sure enough can't play deposit or withdraw.

This is unconstitutional. I understand there are laws against gambling, but I have money in there and I want to at least play with it. I play small stakes and never win enough to withdraw, while I understand it could cause some illegal activities, I don't think this is just.

Anyone else not happy with this?

I don't gamble or play poker online but I feel sad for those who do. I've heard people's accounts have been frozen and they can't get their money back. I'm glad not to be in their boat.

Don't know about that. I don't remember reading anywhere in the Constitution or Bill of Rights about an American's right to gamble.

As an aside, I didn't even know online gambling was legal before that until I heard the news you're referring to on NPR the other day. Obviously, it sucks for those who have money being withheld, but I'm guessing for anyone who actively gambled online, they must have had word beforehand this was coming.

The title is changed now. Before it just said "Poker in the U.S. finally banned."

Well... technically the US Government doesn't have the right or power to make gambling illegal, which includes gambling on the internet (keep reading), HOWEVER they do have power over interstate transactions and commerce which due to the nature of the internet falls under 'interstate' giving the US Government power.

Gambling isn't a freedom, it isn't a right, it is a way to use money. As Congress is granted power of interstate commerce (as stated above), Congress can use the broad interpretation of this to reach their hands far and wide. Online gambling being done with in the US is a good thing though. Too many people are addicted to gambling, and online gambling was just another way for those people to get their fill outside of an actual casino.

The Constitution is a tricky thing. In the end, with the interpretation the government likes to use, it basically lets the government do most anything they want to.

Edit: Before somebody rants about not everybody using online gambling is addicted, etc., etc., yeah, I know. I just don't approve of online gambling in the least, so I tend to have a biased view towards it.

    @TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)

I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!

    I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
