Note that due to the lack of the shopping channel, games like Call of Duty cannot be played online, since the required updates cannot be downloaded on WiiU's vWii.
These games ( MWR, COD BO, MW3 ) still have a good online userbase.
W@W servers are the only servers I could not get any connection.
There are still plenty of gamers on Team Deatmatch on a daily bases.

On a Wii there's no problem with these games if you want to play those online.
Some Wii games still have working online connectivity despite Nintendo cutting off Wii online services, since june 2014 .

Just be awarevWii completely disables any online services.

There might be a workaround, using Nandsave emulation....
if someone would update the cod savefiles on a regular wii using Nand save emulation ( saving on hdd inside a wii nand dump ) you might be able to acces the cod servers.

This could be a "problem" for hardcore Wii COD player thinking of moving there exsisting softmod to WiiU/vWii
So be aware, you cannot play these games online the regular way, only on a regular wii you will have acces the the Wii cod servers, with or without a softmod.

Nope, My Wiiu and vWii is up to date.
Nintendo implemented the same system menu as in the newest toploader model Wii's.
This means NO SHOP CHANNEL, WIIWARE/ VC and ONLINE PLAY FOR GAMES THAT NEED AN UPDATE INORDER TO PLAY LIKE COD.

So no it will not work on vWii but will still work on Wii.

I am Surpised no one mentioned this before.

vWii doesn't have the eShop channel? You can't download channels?
I didn't notice it.

But you can go online.
I can update covers on USBLoaderGX so online is working fine, and I think JoostinOnline released a homebrew to enable or setup online.
I never really cared about it as I don't need it, but there's probably something to allow you to play online, or else a lot of users would have complain already.

Yes I know. But in order to get acces to the cod servers you need to have the latest patch installed .
Getting this patch requires connection to the wii shop channel ( invisible in the background ).
Since vwii does not have shopchannel connectivity users new to cod on vwii are out of luck.
Usb loaders etc have full connectivity , no problem. But since there is no shop Channel instelled acting like a gateway to determine vwii id.......

Cod is one of the view games still supporting multiplayer on a large scale, so I thought of making people aware of this small gripe.
Still these are my findings so I could be wrong but, I couldc not acces any servers from my vwii.
Updating the gasmes via a rergular wii and using nandemulation could circumvent this. Using that nand dump on vwii...
Seems logical enough to me, since the server looks for the pay to play content present on the nand dump.

Via vwii only you cannot get these files the normal way, via the games update prompt.

I may be mistaking something here but... I'm pretty sure vWii still has the shop channel.

I'm not at home to test, but I'm pretty sure I've gotten Wii club nintendo stuff while on the Wii U. (Specifically, penguin park via download code)

And unless something drastic has occurred since, the above video around 1:26 shows the shop channel.

Didn't one of the wiiu updates update vwii? 5.02 or 5.2, something like that. Maybe that update removed the shop channel. I have the latest update. Will look when I get home.

[Edit] Just had another thought. It could be possible that the shop channel was removed on some regions. Unlikely but possible.

Golden eye 007 works on my vWii online just fine.

He's not talking about online play in general, just that some games require an update to play online and he can not update without the shop channel. Did you have to update Goldeneye before playing online?

It does not require an update. However, I am on the latest firmware(WiiU eshop accessable), but I still have the shop channel on vWii.

So unless only the "E" region has the eshop channel removed the op is wrong and this thread can be closed.

The Wii mini (Top loader Wii) got the Shop and online functions removed since the Wii mini is physically impossible to connect online. I don't see why Nintendo will want to remove the shop channel from a console that has internet function.
Anyway, please post a photo of you vWii menu so people can try to find out why your shop channel is removed.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.

Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.

I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
