They're decent when you're eating them but you have that foul breath for hours and there's that damn taste in your mouth that doesn't get out for a good long time.

So generally I'll skip on raw onions. Ones that are like an ingredient (like chopped onions in Mexican food) are fine, though.

Also, stop "crying" over onions. Sorry, I NEEDED that pun.

I can see people not liking raw onions as they taste very strong, but I can't understand the people who don't like cooked onions. They're sweet, have a mild flavor and go well in almost any food. I don't use raw onions in my own cooking but fried onions are awesome. Also, red onions are not bad raw since they're milder.

French onion soup is the best soup ever!

I can't stand any kind of onion(cooked, raw or whatever) if I'm eating them "alone", I mean, with no other food that is accompanied by them. And when they're used as ingredients but later removed (in a soup or some kind of meat, for example) they add certain flavor to the food that doesn't bother me. I can stand the smell, though, even when I'm cutting them. The only problem I have is when eating them alone... they just doesn't taste well.

I love any and all types of onions. I remember once that I ate a raw onion like an apple; it burned like heck, but it was oh so delicious.

Agreed. Onions and Garlic are the FOUNDATION of so many different types of foods; I dunno what would do without them. I fucking LOVE onions. I don't understand the hate. the tears they force you to cry are nothing but a test of endurance to see if you are worthy of eating them.

I like them to, but only in certain things and ways, like on a hamburger or in some sausage.

Cooked, fried, with sausage/burger/etc, in chunks, boiled, grilled....impossible for me. i have tried it all.

i respect those who eat them raw...or just eat them....eeeeeeek

Onion lovers, take the ULTIMATE dish and eat it:

THE MAXWELL STREET STYLE OF COOKING.

Native to Chicago; started at Jim's Original's on Maxwell Street, here in Chicago... it's a method of cooking where the ONLY toppings you put on are mustard... then you SLATHER your burger, dog, polish, or pork chop sandwich in grilled onions, cooked to perfection... peppers are optional.

The first time I had one, I didn't like onions. That was 15 years ago. I have loved onions ever since; it's such a simple way to cook them but it comes out oh so perfect. Picture does NOT do it justice, by the way. They'll load it up as much as you want, and it comes with fries (THE BEST in the city of Chicago!).

If you ever, ever, ever come to Chicago, put it on your list of things to eat (along with Chinatown's great dishes and Dim Sum, Gino's East pizza, and Ricobenne's). You won't regret it.

Also, don't forget! With a little bit of butter or oil you too can grill onions to perfection. However, I don't discriminate. I love onions raw too, whether it's to spice up a savory salad, top a Dog, Pita, etc. I LOVE ONIONS.

I don't mind onions myself, but my brother cooks what I call "onion food", he puts onions in everything. Fry up some taters, add onions, cook some chicken, add onions, spaghetti sauce, adds onions, even when onions are already part of the initial ingredients, he has to add more......it really gets on my nerves. Like I said, I don't mind onions, but he puts too much and everything ends up just tasting like onions. Not to mention the excess gas it causes. I'm surprised he doesn't put onions in his freaking corn flakes.

Lol, onions in corn flakes would actually be going to far.

I also can't stand onions, I just don't like the taste of them, not to mention they make your breath stink...I can live happily never putting them on anything.
