Title. I have an old-ish Samsung monitor and wondering if it is time to move to an OLED one now or to wait later in the year. I don't have any particular issue with mine rn I admit.

Maybe see if there's anywhere near where you live with a demo unit?

That said, I don't know if burn in is still an issue with OLED.

OLEDs look very nice. Even older games look amazing on it, especially with auto HDR. If you have a store like Best Buy or even Walmart nearby, go look at the demo models. It's a pretty significant difference. Also most computers can run two monitors simultaneously so you can keep your old monitor and two monitors is really nice for doing any sort of work, even hobby stuff.

OLEDs are more expensive though. As far as burn in, I've had an OLED TV which I use as a monitor for several years and haven't had a burn in issue. However, it is still a problem in general. My TV has pixel shifting which moves the image by one pixel imperceptibly, and an auto-dimming feature when an image is static for a while, which help. I also have my screensaver set pretty aggressively.

Unlike other modern screen types, burn in on an OLED is permanent. The only way to "fix" it is to dim all the other pixels to match the burned in image, which reduces the screen's overall brightness. But again, I haven't had an issue and it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem.

Same me too. I'm looking at OLED monitors and want to replace my old monitors which had TN and VA. My MSI laptop had IPS screen display is very nice. I like IPS and VA more than TN. I would have to wait few years when price go down on sale plus Black Friday on November every years then buy OLED monitor and will check to compare my old monitors type are TN, IPS and VA. I have to wait on ASrock, ASUS, Gigabyte, KTC, MSI and Samsung monitors when go on sale. ;)

I decided to pass on OLED because I like to keep my monitor for a long time and burn in is a matter of when not if. I also use it in a dark room quite often so have brightness tuned lower which would defeat the purpose anyway.

I bought a 27 Inch Odyssey OLED G6 G60SD a few months ago and while it’s not the best OLED you can buy it’s decent and can usually be had for a bit cheaper than some. I however only use it for gaming and use an LG ultra gear IPS for my daily use. Not a huge fan of the matte display but hardly noticeable when playing a game. It’s quite bright and vibrant. Text can be a bit blurry but again not noticeable when gaming.

My 55” LG C3 does beat the Samsung in pretty much every aspect except refresh rate but when the kids are using the tv for the ps5, the Samsung fills the gap nicely.
