I have been a rom hacker/modder from systems for ages but my kids keep bugging me to make backups work on our 3.0 Switch. Can someone give me a 10k foot elevation overview of what I need to do to get this thing to a point where I can play my own backups? I'd love to have a bunch of the games on a single mem cart and play them on a road trip or something without having to swap carts. I don't wanna eff it up either so if there's a tried and true tutorial can you please point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Jesse

Buy a SX OS license. https://sx.xecuter.com

Follow directions in their Downloads section so you may load it using a clip/self-made jig, a computer/Android device and a USB-C to USB cable.

Begin with SX OS. Most foolproof. Not saying you are a fool, just break you in gently.

Build or buy a jig
Build or buy a dongle. Or fit a Trinket "modchip" internally
Buy an SX OS licence.

When you are more comfortable, you can use Hekate for more productive tasks, or join the road to nowhere and try Atmosphere if the devs have finished killing each other by then. (that was a joke by the way before I get stamped on - they are doing their best in challenging circumstances and have brought much to the scene...)

The world is your oyster. Unless you have a patched unit. In which case sell it or take it back...

The good news Jesse is that you can mod your switch for zero cost (excluding SXOS licence if you want it - but you can buy instantly just the OS as far as I know)

required:
Paperclip
USB-C cable
SD card
PC with TegraRCMsmash gui, your chosen payload.bin and zadig to install the libusbk driver.

Don`t knacker your joycon pins.

If you mean 'hardware' modder, you might want to try a joy-con mod to bridge the pins instead of paperclip or a jig: https://github.com/xxwiredxx/Nintendo-Switch-JoyCon-Hack. I didn't follow these instructions to the letter, but you can use it as inspiration. Some people have also used magnetic reed switches instead of momentary button switches.

@SylverReZ find me ONE community that is free of drama and politics. even video games forums (like this one) have politics section. and for some reason gamers still take consoles/brands wars seriously. even as a kid i never took the console wars bait despite being a nintendo kid.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
one of the reasons i deleted all my social media accounts, reddit account (although i was rarely using it) etc was to get away from this shit.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Vetusomaru, Sadly, not all communities like to play nice. Forums are pretty much dying despite Discord amongst other social media being available.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
i only kept my twitter accounts and only because many of the artists i like share their art only/mostly at twitter.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
lots of discord groups (even the big ones) are also dead for some reason.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Twitter is way too shittier.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
that's why i added some firefox addons to block shit like twitter trends.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Discord, on the other hand, moderation tends to not be very nice in video game communities from what I had experienced.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
nah, discord is also a shithole. discord is good only if you have your own community with your own rules. or if you re lucky to find some groups that arent shitholes.
