Old Flashcard on "new" 3ds?

Hey, so my dad made a flashcard when i was younger for my now sold nds. since then ive bought a 3ds (that ive recently modded) and the flashcard doesnt work anymore. my question is, did the flashcard get blocked, do i need to download something for it to work or is it just totally useless now? also i dont know how when or with what my dad made the flashcard i just know there were a ton of games on there. recently ive been thinking about a specific game on there i always played and its driving me crazy bc i cant find it anywhere and the solution would be the flashcard. i asked my dad about it once and he said something like the flashcard was made specifically for that nds but i have no clue and also very little knowledge on this subject.

I think they meant that their dad bought the flashcart. English doesn't seem like their first language.

What flashcart do you have? Please provide pictures. It's likely that the flashcart is old that it no longer works on newer system firmwares. You'll need to install custom firmware onto your 3DS or whathaveyou, to make it usable again.

im not sure whether he bought it or made it himself, ill check with him. also can you tell me more about the custom firmware? how exactly would i install it? thank you
