Hi everyone, I have an Old 3DS that I bought from a friend, a Midnight Purple to be specific...

He let me have it for $30 with its original box and contents, including the AR Cards, but he told me the console was never modded and on version 11.16, also it didn't have an SD Card

I suspected this quite a bit, so when I got home, I checked the SD card slot, and what a pleasant surprise I got...

So yeah...
I got a little angry, especially knowing that there aren't any 3DS replacement parts where I live. So my question is, does anyone know if it's possible to open the console and see if the pins are just bent or sunk?

I would greatly appreciate a solution; this color is amazing and the console is in good condition except for the slot cover.

That's the problem... Finding a replacement here is nearly impossible
Although they're selling me a Coral Pink 3DS, which has everything up to date except the charging port

My idea here is to use that slot in my Midnight Purple, but they're letting me have the console for $130. Which is... outrageous.

Get one off an unit that is for parts.

The picture is too low quality to tell, but it looks like it's just one or two pins. Usually, the pins are just bent, not broken, you can use a thin needle to carefully bend them back. Just be careful not to bend them too far, they can break easily from being bent back and forth. But it's not like you can make things much worse, either way, the alternative is replacing the slot.

It's not even necessary to disassemble the console although it would make things easier if you disassembled the SD reader (I'm not sure if that's even possible though without breaking it)

That's what I tried, but believe me, seeing pins and poking them with a needle is... torture

I tried that, but two pins are sunken in, the rest are just bent. I can't move those two because they're too low, and I can disassemble the console. But I can't access the SD card slot without destroying it

Get a replacement part from AliExpress then replace it yourself if you have the tools and experience.

If that's unavailable for you, buy the SD card directly, then either solder it in (again, if you have the tools) or get a shop to do the job for you.

I think the easiest thing here would be to solder the SD card internally and access it via FTP, although it will take some time because, firstly, I don't have the screwdrivers, and secondly, I don't have any soldering wire left

Still worth a try, I guess. If you could just get the metal shielding apart it would make it so much easier. Not like it works anyways.

You think soldering an SD card to the 3DS would be easier than replacing the SD card slot module? 😕

It's literally plug and play - no soldering required.

I don't have access to a parts console, let alone a replacement, so I think this is the only option, at least I have the required screwdrivers.

Depends on if the person can solder or not.

Soldering an SD card seems like a bad idea, considering how frequently they go bad.

Perhaps you could solder in a micro SD card adapter? Then you could take out the micro SD, though it would still be a little tricky.

Yes, I'm considering doing that, replacing the slot space with the adapter; I'll still be using a microSD card.

Wow... Is that melted? How can that happen!? Did the SD card overheat or something?

To be honest, I have no idea. According to the owner, the console stopped reading the SD card, saying it was "Write-Protected"

So, "according to" him, he took it out and left it like that, but it arrived in my hands like this. To be honest, it's a beautiful color, but the slot is more than damaged.

Alrighty!
Slot was fixed but 3DS kept saying that the SD is write protected when it's not
And I think I found the issue

turns out I didn't have to buy a replacement part
That's good, I guess, but I wouldn't trust any valuable data to an SD card slot that looks like that! Perhaps you should try to obtain one just in case they become harder to find.

(... Maybe a lot of them actually look like that, but it seems unlikely.)
