I recently purchased a R4 Gold Pro, and while my Pokemon games and Sonic Rush are working fine, Okamiden gives me a white screen. after googling I found it had something to do with me having to install YsMenu, but all I can find are broken links and nothing about the card I own.

Now when I boot up my R4 it doesn't see any menu. I copied the dat and the r4 sdhc files to my micro sd. Do I need to format the micro sd?

Is always a good idea to format the card, sometimes the white loading screen is a wrong firmware not according to the version of the console.

Yes. There are no games more than 4GB size that I know of so Fat32 should work fine.
also, shouldn't I rename the 'YSMenu Primary Boot.dat" to something else?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Okay so I renamed that file to r4.dat and now it "boots" but it keeps infinitely loading and there's a white screen that switches between top and bottom constantly.

Here is another tutorial a little more complex but understandable on how to get it to work. http://3ds-flashcard.com/blog/ysmenu-2018-how-and-why-to-setup-it-to-r4isdhc-or-r4-sdhc-3ds/
