I do wonder if atmosphere will end up changing behaviour of the OS so it works better for homebrew.
Fixing exfat would mean reimplementing the FS sysmodule. It's been talked about, but nobody's in a hurry, as it's by FAR the biggest sysmodule. No urgent need either when you can just use fat32.

I use exFAT but I don't run any homebrew that writes to SD
It also happens for file reads:

The bug is in Nintendo's exfat driver. It constantly changes folders/files even on reads. And because it never syncs properly, on a hang/force quit/force reboot/power off, the handles are lost and the files/folders become missing from the file allocation table. Because exFAT does not have a 2nd FAT like fat32, these file/folders cannot be recovered.

The trusted developers seem to be a bit salty that nintendo would design the OS in a way that makes it hard to support homebrew that writes to the sd card
No they are salty that Nintendo is so incompetent and doesn't care about data loss. Remember it's the same company that bricked ton of Wiis because they never tested their boot2 update code.

Yet it is only a problem for homebrew, so why would they expect Nintendo to care?

It makes me wonder how official software manages to avoid corrupting the sd card & why homebrew can't do the same thing.

I've not seen any explanation, people just seem to have a meltdown about nintendo when asked instead

it happened to me 3 times long before I had homebrewed my switch, redownloading skyrim, xenoblade chronicles 2 and doom were no fun .

That's why it also affects normal shutdown. Cache and handles are per app/applet.

Official software barely reads from the SD/writes to the SD. Games are almost always qutting safely and game crashes are handled by the OS.

How do we find that out? That seems massive news.
I’m pretty sure Libnx (or maybe it was something else, idk) implemented something sometime last year that allowed for homebrew apps to safely be closed with the home button, I have no idea whether this is optional or forced, and I have no idea how to tell if a homebrew app has this feature (I think retroarch does though).

And crashes have always been handled by the OS

So i have just updated from FW 6.2 to 7.0.1 and also updated ReiNX to 2.1. I have just tired to install an NSP game with tinfoil and gives me an error message i then tried to install the game with goldleaf and the switch screen just went black and now i cant get the device to power off/on again. Any ideas?
