Hello.
I own an o3DS (sys 11.13.0-45U, Luma 10.0.1) and received a problem with a Camera application.
After installing the CFW, in apps like 3DS Camera, Face Raiders, QR scan in FBI etc. the camera shows no image (see attached photo). While in Settings -> Camera calibration the image is fine, everything works.
The ribbon cable being torn, broken is out of the question, because on OFW the camera app as well as others worked fine, plus if it would be the hardware problem, there would be no image in settings.
If someone could advice me on how to correct this situation and how to fix this, I would really appreciate this.
Thanks in advance!

Ok do the following

. Run Godmod9 and follow the path CTRNAND -> title -> 00040138 -> 20000002 -> content -> ???????? app -> NCCH image option -> Mount image to drive -> exefs ->. firm -> Copy (0: / gm9 / out)

2. Rename the '.firm' file on the SD card for example to native.firm and copy it to the SD folder: / luma / payload /

3.Now, turn on pressing START and select native.firm, then the official firmware will be loaded (pirated games will not work). Do not be afraid that the Luma3DS will return at the next reboot.

With native firm running try the camera app if it works then something with the cfw is causing the issue. If the camera still doesn't work its a hardware issue.

I'm sorry, trying to follow the path, but unfortunately i dont have a 20000002 directory in 00040138 folder. Only 00000002. Is it the right one?

Are you pressing power on then immediately pressing start? /QUOTE]

Yes, i found out that i needed to press together start and power on. Ok, did everything you have asked. Same issue remains - the camera app doesn't work, but in Settings the camera still shows image. How can it be the hardware issue, if before installing Luma the app worked normally and the image still shows in settings

Cause it can't be a cfw issue as you just tried it in native firm which has nothing to do with cfw. Its running the system like it has never had cfw on it.

Perhaps try doing a system update incase you accidentally deleted any system files. If you did the 3ds will notice and redownload them.

Should I start the system with native.firm and then do the update? Or can i just update from the Luma directly?

Tried to force an update, but it just says that the system is up-to-date, so nothing was downloaded. Still don't understand how the image can be shown in Settings. Plus both cameras don't work, even changing the camera to inner freezes the app completely. I think there was the similar issue on this thread.

Try booting without the sd card inserted then try camera app see what happens also now might be a good time to call in @TurdPooCharger he is the 3ds expert on the site.

Thanks for calling him. I'm a bit new here, so don't have many acquaintances around here.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Took card out and tried the app. No luck there, same things with camera app and settings

Back. I will post later today after some shut eyes. Used to have a old 2DS for real hardware reference testing and double checking. I'm now going off by reading the online Old 3DS user manual

There are technically three individual cameras to check for. The two at the back that create the 3D images and the front facing selfie. Can't recall how all three are pulled up in System Settings. Outer Cameras and 3D Screen Check?

Basically, the way you can tell if the back cameras are both working is if you turn 3D mode on, put a finger on a side camera, close one of yours eyes, and then switch places closing the other eye and other side for the finger.
  • If the left camera is blocked, only the right eye will see image feed.
  • If the right camera is blocked, only the left eye then.
Not sure how the selfie camera. On New 3DS, there's 3D Calibration that has a head tracker feedback. I don't think Old 3DS has anything like that for the front.

I can check the settings, when I'll return home and confirm what settings there are.

Ok, got back (had to do a bit of overtime) and checked the settings. The 3D screen checks just the screen and the Outer cameras have the calibration like one in the manual on page 50-smth.

1. See if the front camera works in the camera applet. This is not the same thing as the Nintendo 3DS Camera.
  • HOME Menu → press (L) + (R) shoulder buttons → Inner Cam.

(A)
If the front camera works, the issue is likely corrupt 3DS firmware. Go to step 6.

-or-
(B) If the camera applet crashes, continue to step 2.

***

2. Simulate a (temporary) system reformat. This will determine if the camera issue is due to corrupt user nand setup.
:!: Do not do an actual Format System Memory in the System Settings.
  1. GodMode9 → [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND
  2. Hold (R)-shoulder and press (X) on the data folder → rename this to data2 → <A> yes → button combo → <A>yes.
    • :!: Be careful. Pressing only the (X) button will bring up the delete option!
3. Press (START) to exit GodMode9. Create a dummy profile.
  • If the 3D slider switch is broken or you wish to skip the introduction, use the gm9 script: CTRTransfer (Type D9) - Bypass Profile Setup.

4. Recheck the front and rear cameras to see if they work in:
  • camera applet
  • Nintendo 3DS Camera
  • Face Raiders
(C) If the front camera works, the issue is likely corrupt 3DS firmware.
  • Do only step 5; avoid steps 6–11.
  • You will need to figure out which (sys/ext)data subfolder within data that's causing the camera crash.
-or-
(D) If the o3DS still crashes from camera usage, continue with step 5.

***

5. Delete the (dummy) data folder. Rename your real data2 back to data.
  1. GodMode9 → [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND
  2. Press (X) on data folder → <A> yes → <A> yes → button combo → <A> yes.
  3. Hold (R)-shoulder and press (X) on data2 → data etc.

6. Backup the SysNAND *.bin image for safety.

7. Attempt 3DS firmware repair with CTRTransfer + system update 11.13E in System Settings or Recovery Mode.

8. Recheck the front and rear cameras.

(E)
The o3DS is fixed. Proceed no further.

-or-

(F) The o3DS still crashes. Move onward to step 9.

***

9. Restore the SysNAND with the image made from step 6.
10. Attempt 3DS firmware repair again but this time with CTRTransfer (Type D9) - CTRTransfer + system update 11.13E.

11. Recheck the front and rear cameras.

(G)
The o3DS is finally fixed. Shitty softbrick begone!

-or-

(H) Sorry bud. The o3DS most likely has a faulty camera module, or its flex cable may need to be reseated for better connection.

Ok, just a little update. On Inner camera app froze, not crashed (no error), so i guess i'd better go and do the second option.

Well, kinda bad news. I got lazy on step 9, seeing how on many steps camera failed to perform. Plus, kinda have all the saves and games and so on and so on. So i think the problem is indeed with cable. Knowing that i have already opened the top shell (to replace top screen) it is reasonable that i could've messed with the cable while rolling them up to fit through the hinge. I could replace the cable, but as i said - lazy (plus tired, so the chances of messing up more are higher than ever). Thanks to @AmandaRose and @TurdPooCharger for their help!
