I'd say low due to the attention to the sheild tablet

Hopefully another company releases a Shield Portable style device. I don't even need better specs. I want the left analog stick in the xbox position, the a/b/x/y buttons to feel like an xbox controller (rather than a PSP), and more internal memory.

Also since emulators aren't illegal why can't Nvidia create some exclusively for its Shield products. A top notch Dreamcast emulator would be quite the coup for Nvidia products (Reicast is still a while away from being top notch).

This. Its also a Phone. Yeah think of it like the never-released Xperia Play 2.

A lot of Android console haters here. With that said, I've been looking for all sorts of info on this machine. I have a good feeling about this console. I hate the damn controller but love the console. I love my OUYA but its time for a upgrade. I want PS360 ports mostly because I missed out on those consoles (which I don't regret). As long as those ports are priced 19.99 and under, I'm game! I use OnLive with my OUYA but the service's current setup sucks. PlayCast is available on OUYA but their games list isn't as tempting. This could be the one. A console powerful enough to handle Android's best and still play AAA games. At the minimum, this should give the OUYA a chance to give us a K1 sequel. If that happens, I'll stick with OUYA's hardware. Either way, I'll have access to their UI and games on whatever hardware I choose. Additionally, I wouldn't mind K1 as it's as powerful as 360 and can handle 360 ports well. I have no need for 4K right now

Well if it is K1 it is still a beast of a CPU that will be good for awhile. But either way ouya needs to be at or less then 100 bucks if it wants to have a shot against this and Razer forge

I think between 130 and 150, with or without the controller would be fair. Another thing is that the next console needs at least two USB 2.0 ports for controllers and, two 3.0 ports for a HDD and camera. I HATE with a passion, only having one full sized port and a micro USB that can only be used for ADB.

Yeah I agree but only issue I feel for ouya (and Razer and Intel) is that they will not have the exclusive games like Nvidia has for the shield console

Not worried about game exclusivity. Those games are third party games and there's a high chance that within three months from release, they (the Android built AAA games) will end up on the Play Store and most likely be compatible with both K1 and X1. So far all of the previous shield exclusives were released to Google Play and in regards to K1, both Trine 2 and Skylanders share the same parity of their 360 versions when running on the K1. OUYA Inc. needs to get their asses in gear and give us some news on their future plans.

Maybe because the few consoles that actually arrived to market were a massive disappointment?

Also it seems like there's no market at all for these kind of things, why are companies still throwing money like that?

I suppose it must all be because of a SINGLE successful Kickstarter about a product nobody care about anymore after 6 months :)

This is just an assumption but maybe the reason why Nvidia didn't announce a Shield Tablet 2 is because the X1 is too power hungry. I own a Shield Tablet and even the K1 drains the battery incredibely fast. So they thought, heck, lets ditch the display and make a console off it.

This sounds exactly right. The Tegra K1 is quite powerful, and when you're playing heavy games like the Source game ports you'll definitely see a huge drop in battery.

The X1 is powerful as hell, I don't think there's any way they could put it into any portable device without either greatly sacrificing battery life, or sacrificing a lightweight build and throwing in a huge bulky battery.

As much as I'd like to see the X1 in action, Android consoles are just completely useless if you have any mid gaming PC from the last 5+ years or even a console.

Not exactly. It's more of a "why do we need YET ANOTHER console with a closed gaming market?" kind of thing.

Not that it really matters...if it's great at streaming your PC toward the television and the bluetooth works fine, it can run the most craptacular linux version available for all I care.

(in fact...why do they promote 3D shooters like that? Those who think these work fine with a gamepad already bought these games on console; the ones thinking they only work on a PC will continue playing them on PC).

Just out of curiosity: why don't you just go to a local game shop? About a year ago, I picked up a 2nd hand xbox360 for 100€, and roughly all games I wanted for it (gears of war, bayonetta, halo, red dead redemption) for about 5-10€ each. If that's all you want, you can already get it...and quite a bit cheaper at it.

To be honest what you described is what I do since I got my ps3 in 13. But the issue is that their are things that consoles like this are better for such as streaming, emulation, and other things. Also their is the fact I'm assuming these games will be 1080p as opposed to 720p that most of those consoles have.

As for the OS I have to say I like android and you can put arm versions of Ubuntu or Debian on it.

Am I excited and happy about it? Why yes I am because it is a good little device that is good for the price and offer a good amount of games that are free or cost very little and has better media abilities then buying a ps3 or xb360

I said over on another thread this has gone straight to the top of my "wants" list for this year. For me it just solves all the problems of having everything "in one box" and for a pretty decent price as well.

For starters, its a 4K video player, which for now, doesn't really mean an awful lot as the content isn't out their and also, I don't even own a 4K telly. But when I DO own this, this will stream anything I throw at it in 4K resolution. Thats one box ticked.

I have smart TV on my current TV but to be honest, its slow, and its crap. This box, having access to the play store will sort out all my needs for Netflix, Sky Go, Internet Radio, Youtube and all other media apps, in one box and at near enough instant speed.

Next up, emulation. Currently for emulation needs its either hook my laptop up which is just a chore and a ballache because my laptop isn't great for anything above and beyond 16 bit (even though its an i3!), fire up the Wii which annoys me because it look garbage on a HDTV or play on the PSP (no complaints here however apart from the limited power it has). This device will literally play 8 bit and 16 bit to perfection and is powerful enough to run the most sophisticated filters to get the most out of HD TVs. This thing will also fly flawlessly through PSX and should hit full speed with every title with PPSSPP and Dreamcast (when the emulators are completely up to snuff).

If the K1 can "almost" reach decent speeds with Dolphin then the X1 is even better placed to obtain playable framerates as and when the emulator improves for Android.

Then you have all the other things in one place that this will breeze through. Any android title currently and in the future will likely to be maxed out in terms of performance, and most games will be compatible with the controller also.

And lastly, if I see fit, it will also allow me to use this GRID thing for streaming top end PC games if I want to. I don't have an expensive PC and would likely never buy one. But to play top end games on a $200 system? Thats a nice option to have. Granted, you would expect this streaming service to not be great with anything twitched based because of lag, but anything else should be more than serviceable and better than any option out there currently shy of owning an all singing and all dancing PC.

I have a laptop currently which is nice for all things work based and piddling about on the net and downloading whatever I see fit and I have a console (PS4) to see me through this generation of games. But for everything else I want to do, whether it be emulation, media etc, its just a mish mash of different boxes, cables, setups at the moment which is just a ball ache. This is just a console, attached to a USB hard drive....done.

Granted, this won't do the dishes, it won't make me tea, but for $200, it does a hell of a lot of things all under one roof. Its niche granted, but whats not to love for the price you pay?

Why not just get a ps3 or 360 now? They're about the same price, and there's no worrying about what will be ported then. Seems like it would be a much easier solution to that issue

i have a nexus 10 it does what i need it to do. these consoles are a waste of time in the end you'll end up just playing candy crush on them anyway! android games are an absolute joke you have a choice from bubble witch CLONES,candy crush CLONES,crazy dentist clones and BS FTP (free to PAY to WIN) games filled with micro transactions all made by greedy devs like gameloft.

I see a lot of people asking me why dont I get a PS360. Short answer, I dobt want one. Kristianity77 stated most of my points. I just like the Android OS and the versatility of Android apps better when it comes to home entertainment.
I don't understand why you dismiss the easier option in favor of the more expensive options that do what you desire in a worse fashion. There's stubbornness and preference, and then there's just stupidity. I honestly can't figure out what logic goes into spending hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on Android based equipment hoping for more than sub par AAA game support just for the maybe that you'll be able to play last gen games, especially when last gen consoles and games have gotten so cheap.
