I am working on some mods for Gundam: The 3D Battle and have been attempting to get layeredFS plugins working for it on my US N3DS.

The game launches normally when I boot into NTR-CFW, but when I try to use a layeredFS plugin and launch the game the screen flashes green (as it's supposed to from what I understand) and then just hangs a the 3DS startup screen.

Any thoughts or experience with this? I really want to get a good debug environment setup for my translation mod

Thanks!

Are you sure you've built the layeredfs plugin successfully? Haven't you got any error like "Failed locating symbol... "?

I am on ReiNAND 10.6.0-31U

When I build the plugin I get the following error:

***WARNING*** Failed locating symbol regArchive , some patches may not work.
***WARNING*** Failed locating symbol hidObj , some patches may not work.

These are the only errors that I get

Wierd, have you got any update data on your game?

What exactly do you mean? So when I pulled the XORPads there was one called: 0004000000039800.UpdateData.romfs.xorpad

Also - this game boots perfectly fine when I remove the plugin from the plugin/ folder on my SD card. It's only when I try to use the plug in that I get this behavior.

The game isn't compatible with the tool to build the layeredfs plugin, so there are only two choices:
1. Make your custom layeredfs plugin.
2. Repack the game with the modded files.

Thank you for clearing this up for me, I really appreciate how helpful this community can be.

If I were to write my own custom layeredfs plugin would I need to properly locate those symbols that I am missing through some other method? That seems to be the issue right? I assume that without the symbol addresses, the plugin does not know where to hook?

Yes, but it isn't so easy locating the symbols (you need to disassemble the code.bin with IDA Pro and you need to be very patient to locate them xD).

Gotcha, that's what I would assume I'd need to do. I'll start there and see where I can get, I've got a decent IDB of the game that I've cleaned up and I've been meaning to dive more into how NTR plugins work anyways. Thanks so much for the advice, I'll post in here again if I manage to get it working. I'm excited to finish up this translation patch.

cheers!
