Hacking NSMB2 Updating

I just need some confirmation that I'm doing this right. I got a 3DS with firmware 4.4U, and I have a bit of OCD that makes me want to update to 4.5U using New Super Mario Bros 2, so I just bought the game pre-owned from Gamestop, with 7 days to return it.

So if I'm right, do I insert the game, turn on the 3DS, launch the game and run the update that the game offers? (Through sys nand)

Should I stay on 4.4 for any benefits, or just update to 4.5? I know they're exactly the same, I couldn't help but to want to get 4.5.

Not sure if its the same fw in other regions but the UK version of Luigi's mansion is 4.5

Oh sorry, I didn't notice the link in your post til you mentioned it.
Says here that Luigi's Mansion and Animal Crossing have 4.5, and I have both of those games. So I guess I didn't need to buy any game afterall.

And to get a confirmation, these games will only install 4.5, and nothing more. I just pop in the game, and run the update prompt that the game offers?
I just want to be sure because this 3DS is going to be brand new. Bought it for $250.

When you launch the game, it'll tell you what firmware is to be installed. You can decline if its too high. There will be no nag if you turn the update down.

There are reports of games getting new firmwares as new production runs take place, so definitely pay attention to what you are agreeing to when prompted.

If you want a game which is specifically 4.5, I know the US version of Animal Crossing is definitely a 4.5 game (and it can partial-update to 4.5 vs latest version) if that's what you need.

there are no benefits, if you know they are exactly the same then it's useless. but as you say, you have OCD, so you had better get help from a psychiatric doctor or a counsellor.
if you are having problems whether or not to needlessly update your 3ds, i expect your condition will also manifest in more parts of your life as well. this is just the beginning.
try to enjoy life and be calm, talk to someone about it. good luck
