just tested the new version on 2 games

tooie
===
slow in big areas
some texture defects
jiggy wiggy jigsaw works and shows up

verdict: playable!? :blink: haven't tested past the 1st world though.

dk64
====
annoying cam issue is still present
still has lots of texture defects
still micro freezes need to push start to get back
can't even pass the 1st stage in jungle japes it is impossible to get pass the 1st set of vines as soon as you get to the middle vine the level resets

verdict: unplayable :angry:

still has a long way to go...

Tooie already worked and is 100% completable, i've done it, just use FB textures ON. Sure it has framedrops especially in some of the bigger levels but it is playable.

DK doesn't save and has camera jittering.
I can use savestates though, in fact if anyone cares i can upload a level 1 completed savestate from not64.

As for the new version, i only tested that for the NYW folder (not yet working) of roms i have (ie not those) and tried Catlevania, Turok 2, Cruisin Exotica and 007 TWINE. Still not working.

Update, i continued my DK64 game tonight got into the 3rd level. 4 Kongs rescued so far (1 missing) and about 14 golden bananas.

The issue with the vines is simply this:SOME vines will reposition you to the start of each level IF you hang close to their highest point (ie close to the rotating thing at the top). However as i said you can advance the game, even with its disability to save normally. I repeat, if anyone is interested, i can provide my Not64 savestates for this game.

it works bit still slow as fuck

and DK is not worth playing it with all these flaws just look what you have to do to play it's ridiculous! i'll wait for a version that actually plays it properly.

Besides the same issues that already existed, can anyone state any new performance increases over the last update?

Maybe that's why the link for the old version is still on the site, he's not sure if the new version is actually better or not.

I completely agree with you.

As far as I tested the new version,I can not find any noticable differences except one.

The first time you load a rom, not64 displays an ultra slow bar that says "growing pagefile to NAND" or something like that and after that,the rom begins to load. Of course loading times have taken a hit, but if this new method of "growing pagefile to NAND" is needed in order to run bigger and more complicated roms like CBFD, I am fine with this.;)

I wish Extrems shared with us some information for new version...

On that last part, yeah, don't do what I did and go to the GC-forever forums and ask what the change log was. Trust me, it wasn't pretty. The forum members will stare at you like a cow to an oncoming train. Plus I would think using the NAND for virtual memory like that over and over again would wear it out faster.

What do you mean with " using the NAND for virtual memory like that over and over again would wear it out faster" ?

Is there any danger to harm the hardware with this method?

@the_randomizer

Yeah I agree with you on the nand aspect, it would be awesome if some sort of VM was introduced a la xbox 1 using HDD as VM, but even still if using the nand gets better performance it's a great step forward.

edit: @panmusic
the problem with using the nand as VM (virtual memory) is the nand has limited life span of read/write/delete so every time you load an n64 game you are shortening the lifespan of your wii

@Bladexdsl
It's not that it's a bad idea, it just depends on how often/many n64 games you are playing. It's no different then loading WW/VC games off an SD

edit, that is not using an emulated nand

i dont do that either cos it basically does the same thing. sorry but i'd rather not risk my nand for a tiny performance boost plus dk64 still doesn't even work properly. if his going to continue doing this in later versions too than i won't be using not64 anymore.

cmon ninty release dk64 on the wiiu VC.
