My Wii has been modded for a while now, using the LetterBomb hack. My SD Card has worked since then, its a 4GB card. I also use a 32GB USB drive to load games via USBLoaderGX, and from my understanding, its at the latest version, 3.0, and all of my IOS/cIOS seem to be fine according to "Pimp My Wii"

However, I bought Super Smash Bros. Brawl from eBay a while ago, and discovered that it wouldn't run. Because its an NTSC copy and my Wii/country in general is PAL (UK). Not a problem, I thought, I can just install it and load it via USBLoader. And for a while this has been working fine.

Either I have to force PAL60 or PAL480p and it works fine. Doesn't show the Remote warning, or the "online interactions" screen, or the loading screen, but when the cut-scene kicks in, the screen flicks back on.

As of today, however, it no longer does. I load it up, the screen goes blank which is normal at this point, then the cut-scene starts ... I can still hear the audio, since its connected to my stereo rather than the TV, but the screen just shows me "no signal". I've tried switching from RGB Scart to the Composite cable that came with the console, same result. I have to press the home button on the Wii remote and figure out roughly where I'm pointing since the screen is still saying "no signal" to get back to the system menu (the click noises help).

Aside from the cables, I've tried changing video options, "disc default" doesn't work since that is NTSC. Well, it does, but the screen just shows everything in red. PAL50 does work, but flickers and stutters, making it unplayable. I've tried reinstalling the game, no luck.

So its not so much a black screen problem as a ... no screen at all problem. I don't know how its gone from working to not working. Something I installed in the mean time? I do look at the homebrew browser downloading thingy. Something messed with an IOS? All my other games still boot from USBLoaderGX, granted, they are PAL games. It seems to only be with this game. I know its a dual-layer disc so I don't know if that causes problems.

Like ground said, you could've just installed Priiloader then proceed to put Region Free so you could play the game normally through the Disc Channel like any other game, *ahem*.

Go to USB Loader GX > select Super Smash Bros Brawl > Settings > Game Load > Video Mode > System Default

That's what I choose for NTSC games anyway, so it must work.

I feel like you have missed half of what I've written :D

I am USING USB Loader GX, and have done what you suggest, that doesn't seem to be the problem. I also tested a different loader, Configurable USB Loader, and got exactly the same result. Game loads, sound works, screen says off or "no signal" in my case. I'm fairly sure its NTSC related, but for the life of me I have no idea what is actually causing the problem. The only setting in USB Loader GX that gives me any kind of picture is Force PAL50, but as I said in my original post, the screen flickers and the game stutters. This makes it unplayable.

What is your Wii's video mode? Pal 50, 60 or 480p?

says 60Hz (480i) in the settings menu, i use an RGB Scart Cable, not that I imagine that makes much difference. USB Loader GX doesnt give me 480i options however, just force PAL50/60. For PAL/NTSC 480p, Game Default, Use Global and System Default. The only ones that work are PAL50 (which stutters since I imagine the game needs to run in at 60Hz), and the NTSC options all work, but I end up with the game being in nothing but red.

It could be the cables, its impossible to be a problem of the game, try using the Wii's default original cables, then run the game by using ''System Default'' at USB Loader GX's settings with brawl, I have NTSC games running at System Default and they all work (I use a Wii SCART Cable)

Etc, etc.

Aside from the cables, I've tried changing video options, "disc default" doesn't work since that is NTSC. Well, it does, but the screen just shows everything in red.

This is a common issue when using pal RGB cables with NTSC games, at least there are several hits on it on google. One suggested solution I found is to not use RGB cables but rather try component cables instead.

I'm using a 32GB USB drive, FAT32 with a wbfs folder on it. I had some sort of issue when it was formatted as wbfs ... oh yeah USB Loader GX wouldn't detect it. Other than that (error on my part) I haven't had a single problem with this USB Drive, and I doubt that there IS a problem with it since all of my other games are still all working fine.

Try with ULGX rev 1217 http://www.mediafire.com/download/63njcn3bp6c9cxm/R1217_IOS222-249-250.7z
According the changelog it fixes problems with PAL/NTSC games:
Changed how video mode is chosen by the loader
PAL now really uses PAL
Force Interlace now really use interlace
Use Force480p if you want to force progressive
Use Disc/console default for auto-detection

This is experimental, please report your settings and tested game if you get
blackscreen/freezes but same settings work with r1216 and you think you selected the correct video mode.

Force to interlaced while using your composites.
