If I install the GGPE01 and GGPE02 IOS on my hard drive, will they work on the USB Loader GX?

There is no IOS for MK Arcade. You need Quadforce or Nintendont to run those. They're just Gamecube games.

I'm pretty late to the party on this. Finally installed the homebrew channel on my wii yesterday using letterbomb with instructions from here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_setup#Letterbomb.
What I find now is when I turn my Wii on, I get this screen
Bootmii_screenshot.png

It doesn't appear like I can do anything on this screen when I'm using my wiimote. The only way I've found to get past this screen is to press the "reset" button on the console (discovered this accidentally), which is not ideal.
Am I missing something?

This is normal, you just have Bootmii installed, which is actually great for you since it provides excellent brick protection. To avoid this screen showing up every time, you need to move the bootmii files off the SD card onto somewhere on your PC for safekeeping. There is a "bootmii" folder on the root of your SD card that needs to be moved off.

Hello, folks! I apologize is advance for my noobness...

I just unearthed my old Wii recently and thought I'd take it out for a spin. I noticed it had HBC Beta 8 installed but I never bothered to use it before (I won this Wii in a raffle many Christmases ago and I only ever used the Disc Channel to play games).

Now that I've managed to hook it up to the net in our current home, I was hoping to update HBC and catch up on all the homebrew goodness I've heard/read so much about.

Here are some things I was hoping you more experienced ones out there could help me with:
  1. Since I didn't install HBC myself (the unit came modded when I won it), I don't have "the" SD Card. What should I have in there anyway to get me started (particularly for updating HBC from Beta 8 to the latest version)?
  2. My Wii System Menu is 3.2u, but my Wii seems to be region-changed (the console chassis shows it may have originally been a Japanese one; I also see Japanese versions of the Weather and News channels alongside the English ones on the home screen; the EULA is in Japanese too). Will this cause any problems?
  3. Are there any other must-have apps I should be including in the SD Card (e.g. Priiloader, etc.) before I proceed with the HBC update?
I suppose that's it for now. Thanks for reading and looking forward to your responses. All other tips and tricks to help me get started are also welcome, of course.

Hey! Welcome to the forum.

1. All you need to do to update the HBC is to run the latest version of the Hackmii installer to update the HBC. I highly recommend using the program ModMii to re-hack your Wii and get everything up to speed. Just choose to do a full hack as if doing so from scratch, and everything should be fine.
2. Region changing is tricky. Until you get HBC updated, I would leave all the region-changed stuff completely alone for now until you can run a sysCheck. For now, just don't update the Wii lest you run into a soft-brick or the dreaded 003 brick.
3. Like I said earlier, you should run a sysCheck using the guide in my signature and post the results here but only AFTER you update the HBC so that everything can produce accurate results. Priiloader should definitely be installed but also after you update the HBC.

Still in the process of modding my Wii (taking it slow so I don't screw things up!).
Started following along this guide: http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-s...backup-wii-gamecube-and-wiiware-games.360687/.
Finished step #4, which installed a USB loader.

I wanted to test things out at this point instead of continuing on.. so I loaded a game onto a USB stick using Wii Backup Manager. The USB stick is FAT32 formatted, with 32k clusters. The game I'm trying is Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (if it matters). The USB drive I'm using is a Lexar S75 128GB (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product...spx?path=f2e5e4ab8c065a73ba7f5e1bef6f18e7en02), if it matters.

When I put the USB stick into my Wii, and run USB loader gx, I get the following error:
a1c75756_c581_4e2b_9f9c_c58cfc2945e6.jpg

Not sure if this because I may need to continue on in the guide before the Wii would be able to read fat32 formatted drives (the video in step 4 says to format the drive as wbfs, but that seems to be obsolete, and the guide specifically says not to do that).. or if something has gone horribly wrong?

As well, wondering if this is the best guide I should be following?

Does USB Loader GX start up without the drive in? Try switching the port that you plug the drive into.

Thanks for this, chief! I just have a couple of clarifications:
  1. I assume I run HackMii to upgrade HBC first before I re-hack my Wii?
  2. Is there a ModMii equivalent for Mac? I do have the capability to run Windows 8.1 via VMWare Fusion, but I'd prefer doing everything from OSX if that were at all possible (not sure ModMii works in Windows 8.1, too).
Just a little side note: Prior to unearthing this Wii I'm using, I did have a Korean region-changed Wii (my wife's) that I 003 bricked. :(

I just outright updated to 4.3 not knowing it was a Korean Wii to begin with (didn't bother checking the chassis) and it didn't have HBC installed (was planning to do so after upgrade to 4.3). I've been trying to search for ways to revive it but I don't really understand the guides I've seen here, nor the YouTube vids I've come across. I know I need a WOD (which I don't have) but that's as far as I can grasp for now.

So I realized there are a couple of variables in play here.. which port I have the USB drive connected to, and whether I have an SD card inserted into the Wii.
If I don't have an SD card inserted, launching the USB loader takes me right back to the home screen (after a few seconds), no matter which port the USB drive is connected to (or if it's connected at all).

With the SD card inserted:
No USB - "slow usb device" message
USB in TOP slot - error as above
USB in BOTTOM slot - USB loader seems to load, but does not recognize any games on the USB drive. In fact, I'm not sure if it actually recognizes the USB drive at all; it doesn't even display how much storage space is available on the drive. And if I try to "install" an original game onto the USB drive (used NSMB, as with the video tutorial), I get an error like the one above.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

@odyssy Did you install a custom IOS like d2x? It's needed for Wii games.
I think I did? Not really sure what I did.. just followed the instructions in HighTeckMan's video.
Specifically, it had me do the following, if this makes sense:

IOS 236 installer
cISOX rev20b Installer
  • Use IOS236, base IOS version IOS56 v5661, custom IOS installation slot: IOS249
  • IOS38 v4123, IOS250
WAD Manager
  • IOS249, install WAD, “USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder.wad”

That cIOS is pretty old. I would use ModMii to get d2x-v8 and install 249[56] and 250[57].

1. When choosing to re-hack your Wii in ModMii, it will direct you to run the HackMii installer and update HBC in the process. So re-hacking and updating HBC are one and the same in this case.
2. I haven't really been able to find a suitable alternative to ModMii on Mac. I have tried to run it with WINE but it doesn't seem to work. Your results might be better, but I would recommend using VMWare rather than fooling with WINE. That said, ModMii is not an irreplaceable program and you can accomplish the same things it does manually with more effort; ModMii merely simplifies the process. I still do highly recommend it.

I have no experience fixing 003 bricks but I know that you need some kind of chip installed to be able to boot a homebrew loader disc (or SSBB) from the Wii Recovery Menu in order to fix the brick.

There supposedly is a ModMii for Mac (if Google is to be believed). I'll look into this some more later when I get home. Thanks again for the help. I'm really excited to try this stuff out (hopefully, I won't turn another Wii into a paperweight).

I literally just figured that out now. NOOOOOO!!! :P

Anyway, the ModMii link you gave me in your original reply seems to lead to a dead one. Is there a "safe" link you can point me to where I can download all the required files?

You should be able to download it from here.

Hmm, I've tried several times but my Wii keeps freezing at the Scam Warning when launching the HackMii installer (i.e. the "Press (1) to continue" message isn't showing up no matter how long I wait). I'm using a brand new 2 GB non-SDHC SD card, which I know shouldn't be an issue.

Help! :(

Should I be waiting longer? The demo video shows the "Press (1) to continue" message appearing ~30 seconds after the Scam Warning shows.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha

@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
