Ok firstly i am a full noob (yes i know this is my issue and i shouldn't have dicked about with it)

So i have a wii with a modchip & homebrew channel.

Being bit fed up of tons of dics so i decided to try an old hard drive (on compatibility list) with usb loader gx.

so installed it on 250 but the usb loader froze on initialize usb device.

i uninstalled the wad and tried on 249 but again is froze.

i did a bit of reading and the consensus seem to be i needed to update to d2x-cios-installer on 249 as 249 seemed not to be able to be updated but moved to this d2x.

so thats what i did, or at least i think i did.......... using the online install guide form (http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-guides-tutorials/88654-d2x-cios-installation-guide.html)

again i tried usb loader but it still froze.

So i gave up thinking its more than likely that on HDD isn't compatible after all.

and this is where my issues started!

Now my wii will not recognise any disc, wii genuine, wii backup or came cube genuine.

i have run sys check (http://syscheck.softwii.de/FDcHh3Lt)

and then pimp my wii that gave no errors but updated several ios including 249 but that has not resolved it and the wii will still not recognise any disc's.

Any idea how i can find out whats wrong and fix it please. REMEMBER i am 100% noob so please use clear instructions if possible.

    Thank you.

IOS249[56] (rev 21006, Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
you did not install d2x-v8 to slot 249 as base 56. its still v6.

IOS50 (rev 5120): Trucha Bug, NAND Access
IOS56 (rev 5661): Trucha Bug, NAND Access
IOS60 (rev 6400): Trucha Bug, NAND Access
IOS61 (rev 5661): Trucha Bug, NAND Access
IOS70 (rev 6912): Trucha Bug, NAND Access
IOS80 (rev 6944): Trucha Bug, NAND Access

Im guessing Brick my Wii...i mean Pimp my Wii did this to these 6 IOS's.
these all do not need trucha and NAND access patches.
Priiloader can patch the system menu with the trucha bug, blocking disk updates, movable disk channel, etc without messing with its IOS (IOS80) - use that vs a patched IOS.

your BC and MIOS are up to date and fine.

and whats with this Report generated on 2008/24/01.

    update d2x to v8 (base 56 as 249, base 57 as 250, base 58 as 251)
use dopmii to install clean IOS's for each of the 6 listed above
Install Priiloader and apply the patches you want on your system menu (look for a priiloader tutorial for more info on that)

    try playing games.
BUT:I do not see anything wrong that would prevent GC and Wii Games from working unless the drive died or the modchip is causing it somehow.

Sorry for the delay, ok i did all the above but sadly it hasn't resolved the issue and the Wii flat refuses to recognise any disk be it genuine or backup.

I put the disk in the front flash's and the disk spins up with the little beep as per normal but then spins down.

We had a couple power cuts last night but i can't see that being to blame and surly its too much of a coincidence for me to be messing about them is suddenly not working? must be something i've done?

anyway here is my new sys check (http://syscheck.softwii.de/BfHyJ91G)

No idea when my wii was last updated but i was to do an official update would it wipe everything so to speak? since i have a modchip i can still use disc's.

Or is it possible to somehow fully restore the wii? or say if it was bricked to restore it that way?

    Thank you

Looking at your IOSes, I would just install clean IOS 1 through 80 (except you can installed a patched 80) using modmii.

Do you know which modchip you have installed on your wii?

It could be the laser died, my wii's laser had died over a year ago and the only way I can play games is via HDD.

its a WiiKey 2 if i remember correctly but i had it installed rather than me doing it as it was soldered.

Noob question alert! How do i install clean ios 1-79 and then a patched 80? just using modmii? and if so how do i install normal then patched for 80?

again sorry for the noob questions, having a chip i've never really used homebrew channel as my kids are as young as 5 so disks were the easy route.

    Thanks for the help.

Nope, installed all the ios modmii gave me (30) but it still won't read any disk.

I'm starting to think the drive dying was just coincidental?

drive spins up and beeps as if its about to read but just spins down again.

daft question but if i was to open the wii then will any wii drive work on it? perhaps i could try another drive on it to see if its the drive or something else? i think i can get hold of a 1st day uk pal released wii and this one starts in LEH1573 is that possible?

Just off to bed but any other ideas and i would very much appreciate the help.

have you given usb loading any thought?
I used discs at first, then switched and saw the convenience of it.

Yes that's what I was trying to do.

The HDD was said to be on the ok list with USB loader but didn't work.

Next day the disks won't work.

Does anyone know if I can try another DVD drive on my Wii to see if it's the drive at fault? A friend has said we can try his but can any drive go on any wii?

I've only got a 1gb pen drive so I'll have to see if I can get a game small enough.

The HDD has its own power supply so it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not blaming anything and still think its something I have done but just don't know how or why.

Are there any settings in USB loader that would stop the DVD drive from working? And are DVD drives from other machines interchangeable? A fried says we can try and swap DVD drives if they interchange to see if it's the drive or the wii.

ok i put a game onto a pen drive and usb loader works fine so i can just go out and buy a HDD and i set ubs loader to default.

However still no action from the DVD drive, my friends is LH1030 can i transplant the dvd drive onto mine LEH1573.

That way i know if its the drive that is gone or not. I have a lot of original disks so i want to get it working.

    thanks

    NSMB I guess.
Is HDD connected to the right port on wii? Is there proper partition table and directory structure?
Do You have pre/priiloader? If so, check for patches enabled.
Also pick any game on DVD and find IOS it uses. Then verify that this IOS is present in unmodified form.

Thanks mike but that has somewhat lost me?

    NSMB?

HDD is connected to correct partition and i formatted in fat32 then used wbfs manager to format to wbfs the same as i did with the usb pen drive.

I'm no so fussed about usb loader as i will go and buy a new HDD as the old one is only 80gb anyway.

got priiloader and here are the settings which i think are default? i didn't touch them anyway.

i have wii sports as an example, how do i find its IOS and verify that that ios is unmodified?

is it possible to replace all the IOS's and start from scratch as if its a new machine?

    Thanks for the help.

Keep it formatted to fat32, wbfs is outdated and does not have as many advantages as fat32.

    OK. Quick update.

So i swapped my dvd drive out with my mates and it works fine so its the dvd drive thats shot.

Just one of those things i guess that just coincided with be buggering about with it.

USB loader it is then. I'm gonna go buy a new HDD off the list. probably be a 1tb one such as one of the seagate ones.

Thank you all for your help.
