A friend of mine loaned £100 to someone but since he couldn't pay it he gave him his Advent 7255 laptop. Frankly, I think the borrower is having the last laugh.

64mb RAM
Broken disc tray that won't open unless you use a toothpick

So he decides to give it to me since I'm always collecting computer junk but sadly even I didn't want this and as such, has been sitting in my house. Then I opened a seller account on ebay after years of buying from there and now I'm wondering. Is there anyone who would be desperate enough to buy a laptop with those specs on ebay?

You can always try on less techie places -local newspapers, flea markets and stuff like that-..yeah I can see it: Basic laptop, perfect for students

I was given an old laptop too a couple of years ago, it was a dell Pentium 1 computer. I had it running OpenBSD because Windows 95 was slow as hell.

I found a local computer joint that bought it for $50 dollars after checking it out. not bad I thought. I would have just thrown it away if I couldn't find anyone to take it off my hands.

I buy a lot of cheap/old/broken electronics online. There's always something you could do with them, if you're creative.

I made a cool pong clock out of an old laptop once.

Shockingly, all the local pawn shops in the city I live in is closed. I guess it's because people treated it like a dump site and offloaded all their Pentium 2 PCs and VHS tapes which no-one will buy.

So very cruel, but given the piece of crap the girl next door to me in halls was running someone might buy it. Brick didn't quite describe it, it was huge and it could barely run Word. I dread to think what was under the hood :S But it was all she needed it to do, it didn't bother her at all.

And I remember the girl next door to me in the other halls knocking on my door one day, dumping a laptop in my hands and saying "hey someone's selling this they let me look at it first, is it any good?". Without the power lead might I add.

After a bit of muddling along the lines of "I have no clue what's in it" I was saved by the lack of a network card or expansion bays, yep that pretty much killed that deal.

Back on topic; maybe aim for a collector? Like some computer enthusiast who might find meddling with a slow machine an amusing diversion or something.

a few years back i bought a laptop from ebay with either 6 or 8gb hdd and 128mb ram running windows 2000. i knew nothing about specs when i was 13... but the price was affordable as a chrissie pressie (it was around £150).

Borrower moved away so there is no way of contacting him. Yeah, it was something like 10 months ago.

CD boot? Yeah, it does but the main problem is trying to get it to open with a toothpick

I'm going to ask a seperate question in this thread to avoid the bother of making another thread.

I'm going to sell my other laptop. The only difference is that it actually works and is quite decent but the truth is I don't need it anymore and I need the money to upgrade my desktop PC.

It's a HP TX1000 PC with 160gb HDD, 1gb RAM and AMD Turion 64x2 processor. Now, the thing is, it originally came installed with Home Premium Vista which I formatted (because it was filled with HP crap and trial stuff) and replaced with Vista Ultimate. Now, if I sell this on ebay will I get into trouble and also is there a way to properly format everything on the HDD to get rid of all the data?
