are you sure you didnt reverse the order when you unplugged the drives?? try reversing what port each drive is plugged into

I'll give that a try, cheers - didn't think to try that. Although isnt the vWii/GC drive suppose to be connected to the 'top' port for it to work anyway?

Hey all, I followed the pretty simple instructions (as far as I can tell) and tried loading up a game, only for it to tell me "This Nintendont version does not support games on USB."

I'm using the latest USB Loader GX and latest files for Nintendont so I'm not sure exactly why this is happening. Anyone have any ideas?
you need a usbloader latest mod and latest nintendont, im guessing you have a very old usbloader an thnk its latest. id nintendont told you that or did usbloader?

Well I just installed it a few months ago and went to update it in the settings and it said I'm on the latest version of GX Loader.

Oh and it's the loader that's telling me that since that's where I'm trying to load the games from.

thats becuase the latest one isnt updatable in the settings you need to manualy download it from CYAN signature here on gbatemp.

yes :) I'd love for usbloader gx to work the same way too, as I prefer it's gui... but I don't think it's possible unless it's updated, which hasn't been in a long while either.
That means you already tested USBLGX? I always thought it works with two drives, only Nintendont is the problem.

However great find! Thank you very much. I'll try at least to get it working in WiiFlow. My aim is to somehow find out in which order both drives can be connected to the backside as I need the frontside for my GameCube controller adapter.

One last thing:
beta53-alt installed on cIOS 249, 250 & 251 (following the wiiu hacking guides)
I think I already have other things installed. Is it risky to just take beta53-alt and install it over my actual setup?
Also I hope that this doesn't pretend my emuNAND/neek setup and the fact that I can use USB microphones for karaoke games from working.

You can safely overwrite the cOIS slots 249, 250 & 251. if it doesn't work for you, just switch back. If you want to use both back ports, just plug the WiiU one into the top port and the vWii drive into the bottom. that should work.

as far as emuNAND or neek - I'm not sure :/

So its possible to use only the back usb ports, thats good.
As for the wifflow on BOTH usb and SD, was it nessesary to do the same with GX?
It would be great to have a list of problems or situastions where you still would have to remove the vwii drive, just to be sure. Also that list could be used to improve and remove these issues in the future.
For instanse, are there any alternative to WUPs installing of games that might still work? Either on a computer or directly on the wii U

by GX, do you mean usb loader gx? if so, this wont work at all for usb loader gx as far as I can tell - but I could be wrong, it's worth experimenting with.

the only problem with my setup that I know of is that when running any wup installer in WiiU, you have to remove the vWii drive or the game will fail to install. its a limitation of the wup installer & it doesn't just affect my setup, but any setup that has 2 drives connected I"m pretty sure.

A WUP installer IS the only way to install a game, otherwise you'll have to use loadiine to run the game. Mind you, a WUP installer installs WiiU games directly to the WiiU home screen, otherwise known as the Brazilian install method.

Has anyone had issues with Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance?

It would shut my console down after the first loading screen. I thought perhaps because it was compressed so I then copied over the uncompressed iso instead. The game gets to the first loading screen now and just sits there frozen. Other games seem to work fine. The iso boots fine in Dolphin.

Just to report back:

I tried swapping the drives ports, didn’t work. I then swapped the drives back to their original ports and nintednont gives me a ‘checkformultigameandregion’ error. This can be fixed by removing the Wii U drive again and just leaving the vWii/GC drive plugged in.

Just because it works in Dolphin doesn't mean it will work in Nintendont. Dolphin is an emulator. Nintendont is an interpreter and is a bit more picky. Have you verified the 1:1 iso? If the MD5 doesn't match redump.org than it is corrupted in some way.

is your iso md5 checked? becuase when nintendont shuts down your console it means your iso is misaligned so im guessing its a bad dump you have or some forced setting.

Thanks for the replies guys I will try two things. Checking md5 and downloading a different dump. I have over 600 GameCube games so it's hard to test them all this may have been the same for aggggeessss.

from what little bit i know of wiiflow and cios i believe the reason your method works is because not only are you using beta53 alt but because following the guide you chose to follow it uses ios58 as the base and installs it in slot 251. so in slot 251 is d2x[58] v10 beta53 alt.
In slot 249 is base 56 and 250 is base 57.

when you start wiiflow with force cios on and cios set to 251 then wiiflow will use that cios for all its input/output. if you have your wii game's config ios setting set to 'auto' then those games will also use the cios in slot 251 unless the game wants to use IOS57 then wiiflow makes that game use slot 250 because it's base 57.
if you have your wii game's config ios setting set to a specific cios then the game will use that cios.

not sure why you have to have wiiflow and nintendont on both SD 'and' USB. but i'm curious, do you have data_on_usb set to yes in wiiflow.ini or wiiflow_lite.ini? which means you would need your wiiflow folder with all the settings, covers, plugins, themes, etc... on your USB HDD.

here's my guess at getting usbloader gx to work with your setup - you need to set usbloader gx the loader itself set to use cIOS 251 as well as the global IOS setting for all wii games set to use 251.

Thats what I suspected. I can check the ini's later today to confirm, but from what I heard and tested myself, beta 53 can't access the SD card, so if you force load the custom cIOS you'll lose all settings, covers, plugins, etc if they are only on the SD card. Also, I believe the reason we use 251 beta53 is because it's the only one that can access the WiiU's front ports, or the bottom back port.

But, the reason we need to keep at least the dol on the SD card is for initial boot as the homebrew channel can't access the drive on the front ports & the channel forwarders forward to the SD.

You don't need ALL the files on the sd, but you need to keep the dol and settings files on there.

Maybe there's a more elegant solution though, I would love to hear it.

As far as usbloadergx, I can actually get it to work if I load it FROM wiiflow... but loading it from the homebrew channel or forwarder channels dont work. But, I think i discovered a setting in the settings file that's not in the gui (or I missed it) that can force it. I'm trying to experiment.

If using Windows you can use @GreyWolf's GCVerifyer app in his signature to check the whole lot of ISOs you have.

here's an idea to try for usbloader gx:
edit it's meta.xml in it's app folder on SD. why SD? because you said the forwarder works on SD.
look for these lines in the meta.xml:

<!-- // remove this line to enable arguments
<arguments>
<arg>--ios=250</arg>
<arg>--usbport=0</arg>
<arg>--mountusb=1</arg>
</arguments>
// remove this line to enable arguments -->

remove the two lines that say remove and set the ios=251 and save it.
now when you run usbloader gx via the forwarder it will read the args and use them. plus you will have to go in usbloader gx custom paths and change them to USB and change the global IOS to 251 as i mention before.

Hello, I have downloaded this and are using it with USB Loader GX and I was wondering...

...for downloading the BIOS, what do you mean by game's root? Do you mean the root of the Sd Card/USB, the games folder, or the folder of the actual game? I really want the bios (not only for nostalgia, but for formatting corrupted virtual memory cards without having to go to melee) but am counfused on where I should put the file. If you could reply to this, it would greatly help me.

Thanks!
