THIS has to be the weirdest issue we had to this day, the people who experienced the freezing did not experience usb problems but WiiConnect24 breaking the game, check this revision out:
-fixed some drastic thread bugs in the kernel, this should fix various freezes and startup problems for alot of people
-added code to disable WiiConnect24 before running a game, some games got interrupted by it and froze that way, now even with WiiConnect24 enabled the game should run fine
-cleaned up and corrected various IOS module usages in the loader so now things should work properly again as they used to in 296 and older
-added a small 10 seconds timeout for USB so even slow devices should now be picked up
-fixed burned discs on old wiis werent working anymore

WiiConnect24 is not even related to USB. Funny how something that seems unrelated is causing the issue.

That is seriously the strangest thing I have ever seen

I'm a computer technician and you have no idea on some of the strange things I've had to deal with. I had someone ask me to fix her cup holder (the CD-ROM tray). I had someone who couldn't turn her computer on not realizing that a computer doesn't work during a power outage. I could go on. Another time I was trying to install Windows NT 4 and no matter what CD I used, CD-ROM drive I used, HDD I used it kept hanging on the same file. Turns out the issue was bad RAM.

I'm a fellow programmer too and try figuring out why your app runs perfectly fine while in debug mode but not in compiled mode. A real head scratcher.

I'm not home right now to test out my PNY 64GB Flash to see if it still hangs on Initialize Device.

I can confirm that my old usb powered drive now works. My self powered drive never stopped working (thankfully). Still this is great news

2.302 getting a black screen with no video on exiting a game ,after pressing the home button with classic controller plugged in ,having to power down my wii on the latest . Works as it should exiting games on Usb loader gx . Maybe a fluke though. Not sure I'm testing through home brew as always for my testing . Before it would exit to health screen.
