People have been using HID just fine post-217. A more likely cause is there something wrong with my devkit install.

in the next revision, can we go back to the old GUI while keeping the updates that Howard made for the adapter to see if it works?

Hell dont make it a new revision, just a testing version. I'll more than gladly test it myself

I tried the adapter with r216 and it works with the reversed controller stick.

For me on an NTSC U Wii U with a DS4 controller:
These were all tested with only HID and USB on. Everything else off or default.

r216: Works
r217: Plug controller error
r218: Works
r219: Black Screen
r220: System Reboot
r221: Black Screen
r222: Works
r223: System Reboot
r224: Plug Controller error
r225: System Reboot
r226: Plug Controller error

The results are all over the place.

try the same test with r219

I get Mr. Black Screen.

Let me try the 2 post r216 versions that worked for me.

EDIT: both r218 and r222 work with the adapter but with the un and down for the controller stick reversed.

Also, there may be something funky with McEmu. With it on I get the Progressive mode Yes or No option but with it off I don't. I do not have Forced Widescreen or Progressive on.

All tested with Mario Sunshine.

I'm using 225.
Wiiu gcn adapter connected to the front
Games on SD
Hard drive (for wii) plugged in the back.

Only things on are
HID on
Mcemu on
Multi off
Pads 4

And all my gamecube games work fine, including f-zero Gx 4 player split screen using only the wiiu gcn adapter.

Only issue I've had was with triforce games.
F-zero Ax, a while back it used to black screen. Recently all I've been getting is I/O board error.

I have just tested the FRONT USB port with my DS4 and r226 works when loading game via front SD. There seems to be something wrong with the rear USB ports.

Upon further testing it seems that loading from USB with HID has issues.

All of my problems are gone when loading from the from SD slot with HID enabled. Even the GC Adapter works fine.

Can add r214 and r215 to this list. I want to make sure r216 wasent just a random one that worked.
Can you try a couple a second time to see if the results are always the same or random?

Quick question for the devs about running GCN adapter without smash.

Given that we need to boot smash to get it to work means something is loaded and left in memory.

Now given that it works in vwii I'm guessing that whatever is loaded must also be accessible within the vwii ram allocation or something.

Wouldn't it be possible to do a ram dump with the adapter loaded and one without to see what's different and then have that integrated withing nintendont or whatever other homebrew?

I know I make it sound like a piece of cake and I have no programming experience so I might be talking nonsense, if so please correct me.

its nothing to do with vwii or similar the ssb4 sends a code to the adapter to turn on and thats it its the game that sends the code to turn on same goes for ps3 controllers and such but on those we know the call for power on while we still dont know on this adapter.

I tried those several times with consistent results. I even double checked 218 and 222 to make sure they weren't random either.

r214: Black Screen
r215: Works

There seems to be a problem with the USB module when HID is enabled as all revisions I tested work fine when using the SD module.

On another note with USB Module, Luigi's Mansion PAL still black screens when loading from USB (No HID) but not with SD with r226 with McEmu on. I then checked r215 again with loading from SD and it black screens.

I can confirm that the gamecube adapter works perfectly when loaded from the SD card. It definitely looks like a problem with USB loading.

So I was way off, cool thanks.

With this info you just shared. Wouldn't it be possible to put a port sniffer and analyse the commands sent?

With a few dumps and comparisons we would be able to identify the command?

Unless of course it's encrypted which I doubt it is for some reason.
