No that was while playing Smash Bros for Wii U. This probably means we wont have to have use up two USB ports when using the Cube to Wii U adapter once it gets implemented for Nintendont.

Adeka and Khar00f, you guys might want to try that out.
Apparently, only the black USB needs to be connected to make the adapter work, the grey one is not necessary.
Try that out with your results and let's see if hopefully that makes the adapter a suitable option for USB loading too.

I've tried it already and only the black cord is required.

My gc games are on SD while my wii games are on USB.

unfortunately can't test gc games on USB.

I just figured out the grey USB is for the rumble.

Interesting, so the grey cable powers up the rumble motor.
My my... what an odd way to work xD

I'm guessing from my limited knowledge of USB power and Wii U's lack of USB power output that using both USBs might be needed on a Wii U in order to get rumble. However on anything else(PC or Wii) we might only need the one USB for rumble.
Again I'm not an expert.

WAIT. Is the grey cable only for power in general or is the rumble data being sent from the Wii U through that same cable? What I'm trying to get at is this. Is it still possible to have rumble if the gray cable is plugged into external power?

I just used an external USB port(the one on my TV) for the grey USB on the Wii U GC adapter and the rumble still worked. So it looks like the grey is just needed for the extra power to the adapter for rumble and has no other use(that I know of). One USB alone from a PC or even a Wii might have enough power to get this adapter to fully work with rumble!

In my own knowledge:

A USB cable is usually split into two parts.
Power and data.

My bet is that since the black cable is the data (and power part for buttons), it can be handled by a sole cable.
The rumble motor though might require more power than a simple push button, which is why the gray cable that enables rumble simply powers up when required, since it only need a 0 or 1 to work (on or off).

It is possible.
Simply connect the gray one using external power and that should do it.

ONE IMPORTANT QUESTION:
Anyone has tried using a Y-Cable to connect the adapter to a PC with just one port powering both black and gray cables?

The last posts are good news to my ears. I use the front bottom port for my Wii U HDD (it has a y-cable split to external power). The back right (my right) port is for my Wii HDD and the back left is for accessories (toy portals and mics). This leaves the front top port for the GameCube adapter in which the grey cable would be plugged into external power.

I really have no idea what Nintendo was thinking when they decided to under power the Wii U's USB ports.

It's amazing what things you can learn by reading the directions. ;)

Btw, I got my adapter in the mail early. I'll do some testing tomorrow.

I didn't think instructions were needed to plug an adapter into my Wii U then a controller into that adapter:rofl2:

That's some very complicated stuffB-)

Just a heads up, the stickY and cstickY are reversed (pushing up makes you go down and vice-versa). Everything else works perfectly though. Howard should have it fixed tomorrow or the day after.

USB Loader GX says that Nintendont v2.222 doesn't support USB. I've done everything possible, including redownloading USBLGX.

Hello I'm Currently having issues with nintendont and loading any game. Both my wii u and wii does want to corporate with ssbm and i tested sms on wii and just an error, Non specific too.

JoostinOnline is there a way to compile Nintendont 2.219 to have the text position in 2.222? I'm tired of not being able to read the text but at the same time I don't wanna update because 2.220+ break more games than fixes any in my collection, sorry for the trouble.
