This. Thank you so much for pointing out what I tried to say in a single sentence. Nintendo may expand its reach in the current market with cheaper budget games, but they're just that: cheaper budget games.
Nintendo's pushing their best titles to the 3DS and the Wii U gets low budget games that aren't even worth $40 to begin with because if they were eShop games they'd be $15-20 tops.

I'm not sure why people would be excited about something so disappointing like this.

It only means that Wii U has been relegated to be the entry level console while the New 3DS is the "flaghsip".

All Nintendo games are now bound to have amiibo support whether they're $40 or $60 games.

Metroid? Samus amiibo.
F-Zero? Captain Falcon amiibo (needs a reprint).
Star Fox? Fox amiibo.
Kirby? Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight amiibos.

I'd bet if Nintendo introduced the amiibos during Mario 3D World then we'd have Mario, Luigi, Toad and Rosalina amiibos to use on it.

Oh yeah! Toon Link amiibo for Wind Waker HD! Make it happen, Nintendo!
