By all accounts, seems like a really well-optimized port with minimal compromises on graphical fidelity. If we weren't so close to the release of Steam Deck, I'd be tempted to buy it again.

The digital version on the e-shop. That's because it's banned in Germany. They're looking into it, I believe.

Surprisingly, it isn't banned in countries like UAE and Iran.
Huh, I would've thought maybe banned in China because they don't seem to like anything that heavily features the undead. Germany OTOH I thought was only overly uptight about Nazi imagery, guess they're getting more restrictive with mature video games in general.

It's actually quite the opposite. The German BPJM (that index department, if you want) had a history with both Nazi imagery and extreme violence. German versions of older games mostly lack features like cutting off limbs or heads (which I personally think are unnecessary to begin with) in order to comply with BPJM restrictions. However, the BPJM did tone down their restrictions over the last few years, especially regarding Nazi imagery, but also regarding violence. But since Dying Light still got indexed when it came out initially, all other versions of that game which are basically the same game without major changes, will get indexed as well until the game is reviewed again and found harmless enough by today's BPJM standards to be removed from the index, which might turn out to be the case eventually.

Are there eshops on UAE and region? (I know they sell physical switch games on Dubai)
From my experience with Nintendo consoles and living in the UAE, they tend to prioritize the NTSC (US) store and games while also offering PAL(EU/UK) for certain people. Of course, prices do vary as they charge you for tax and such.
As for other consoles like Xbox and Playstation, they have their own stores where several games are either Arabic translated, heavily censored, or just straight up banned.

Is this franchise any good? I've yet to read/watch reviews.
Much love to you.
Dying Light is very good. Think free-roaming Mirror's Edge combined with Dead Island. It rewards exploration, the story is solid, and gameplay difficulty I'd say is just right (everything's more difficult during nighttime).

It's fantastic in co-op too. You can play through the entire campaign with up to 3 friends. I've done this a couple times and it's always a good laugh.
