There is no proof that it is region locked. And the only thing that would be region locked would be the DLC. It would be impossible to region lock old games like that. It isn't definitely region locked and DLC is all that could possibly be affected even if it was.

It would be perfectly possible to region-lock old games. Each game has a region code in it, and each DS(i) has a region-code, make the software only run games that match the region code and there you go.

Though I don't think they will, because then an old DS could play MORE games than a DSi

Yes, but that wold go against everything Nintendo has believed. Their handhelds are always region free. Making the DSi region-locked on old games would drive away some people.

How does anyone know there will not be DSi cartridges? I have seen a LOT of articles referring to the concept of DSi-only cartridge-based games. Now these articles could have all gotten their initial info from one source which was wrong, but does anyone have any real links that say "no cartridge-based DSi games?" Because I can point to many that say there are.

The DSi is NOT a new system. Sales in Japan are low, so they stamped a $2 camera and a music player on it and they are reselling it.

Maybe they could do "only-dsi games" that are playable exclusively with the camera and that without it would be stupid. But I don't think that they could do a lot of them.

there WILL be DSI only games, but i really doubt it will be much fun/popular
what games can you possibly play with a camera? the best i can think of is to turn your surroundings as a background on your ds with some monsters glued on, so it's like fighting monsters around you. anyway, it's stupid

for the pirates out there, the dsi may take some time before it can be used to run roms, i highly doubt our current flash carts will run on them.
the SD slot will be able to run roms when it's hacked, but you will probably need to buy an aftermarket flash cart to boot it anyway

Agreeing with Panzer Tacticer, I still play some 2600 games on my DS. Actually with all the emus, the DS is quite nice in that regard... I can dig out all the old games I want. Just because they don't make new games anymore, doesn't make the old games crap.

As many other people have said, there are no DSi exclusive games besides download ones.

"Dunaway also indicated that the DSi is unlikely to be region-locked, allowing any software from around the world to work on the hardware."

This is from gamesindustry.biz:

"Nintendo told our sister site Eurogamer.net this afternoon that the DSi is region locked "because DSi embeds net communication functionality within itself and we are intending to provide net services specifically tailored for each region"

Whoops. Somebody's wrong. LOL Oh, well. We'll find out soon enough.
