Not really bro... Nintendo is using it as a bridge to escape physical releases entirely in the future, and they're using it to test the waters. Switch 3 might go full keycards only, and Switch 4 purely digital with game ownership being a thing of the past. It's a slippery slope we're on that soon we won't own any media of any kind, and that's a future that sucks.
That makes no sense. It's not like digital only releases weren't a thing before key cards became a thing.

Like, even if we entertain a conspiracy theory about how Nintendo is part of a cabal that wants to end media ownership, the easiest way to do that is to keep jacking up the price of physical releases until no dev wants to make them and no consumer wants to buy them.

And here's the kicker: until we're able to back up our games, physical or digital, they have a finite shelf life.

Key cards aren't killing media ownership. DRM is, and it's on your physical releases too.

I'm pretty sure cheaper game carts are coming, so I doubt Nintendo is purposely trying to phase them out.

Anyway, they finally ported Oblivion. I wonder if they will port Starfield.

I'm guessing the reason for some games being released now on the eshop and only getting a physical release by summer is probably that.

Pragmata looks a bit disappointing, I remember it being so hyped up.

Just like the other Capcom releases, another key card. 🤮

Nintendo and the gaming industry as a whole want to kill physical off completely, but if they do it too quickly people will revolt. Remember when Microsoft tried that with the Xbox One? Yeah... They don't want to suffer the same fate. Their end-goal is to maximize profits by ending physical production of games.

One funny fact about this is that half of my X feed was just random people knowing about the direct and asking "WHERE'S DELTARUNE CHAPTER 4+5 ON SWITCH".

Who tf cares about nintendo and direct anymore... Do people actually care? do you care??
Yes I do.

Sony tried too soon with the PSP Go, then M$ again too soon with Xbox One, but people are now comfortable with games being digital so all three are going for it.

Piracy is how Switch 2's library will be preserved as most carts will be useless.

Pragmata looks interesting, but feels a bit clunky in the combat if I'm being honest. Glad to see the new Resident Evil coming through. It's a shame we never got local versions of the 2 and 3 remakes. We could have had all the Resident Evil games on Switch 1 and 2, but nooooooooo.

Demo has been available on Steam for quite a while now, not sure about other platforms. It plays a lot better than it looks in trailers, really good performance too.

Let's assume for a minute that the industry wants to kill off physical media. Key cards do not serve this purpose.

Also, the Xbox One didn't try to kill off physical media. They tried to add (more) DRM to physical media. There's a difference.

The physical/digital distinction is not relevant. The security measures are.
