I will be purchasing a switch soon. Was looking into all the fun things i could do to it. Reading other posts it seems a good possibility of getting banned. What would that mean ? Just no online access? loose access to legal bought digital games? Switch no longer booting? Ive hacked many 3ds systems, wii, wii u before all with no problems. Just trying to get all the information i can . Thanks

You will lose access to Nintendo Services such as eshop and online play.
Make sure you buy an unpatched Switch or a 4.1.0 patched Switch.
Also look into emuNAND (SXOS) or emuMMC (Atmosphere) so you can switch (pun) back and forth between a homebrew NAND and a clean online NAND.

banned switch means but not limited to restricted online access to Nintendo's servers and online services.
Some type of bans simply kick you out of a certain pirated game whilst other types of ban might restrict you from accessing eShop anf even updating your console altogether, namely superbans.
For your further inquiries regarding bans, the likelihood of them happening and what dos and do nots refer to this thread

If you intend to have a clean system environment solely for online play and yet also wishing to do hackery stuff you ought to set up emuNAND then. With emuNAND you can set up a separate NAND (which is a 1:1 copy of your system that runs off the SD card), and use it for your hacking/CFW needs whilst retaining the legitimacy of sysNAND for online clean play.
here's an emuNAND setup guide
by the by, there's plenty of other guides out there in the tutorials section. read whichever best suits your needs.

What nobody has told you...

You're likely not to find a hackable switch these day if you're buying new right now. Use the serial number checker and check before you buy.

Edit: looks like @altorn mentioned it.
